ATX PC CASE GROW ROOM! TELL ME WAT U THINK!

The one on the right is the same plant from above, after 3 weeks of 12/12.

It's flowers have just started to show

These two are normally under six 18w compact fluros ( but they love a bit o sunbakin!)

 

They've been fed compost tea about every 3 days, in their soil and on they're leaves

They LOVE it!

 

I'm no expert, but seem healthy enough

I did use a 20 watt bright halogen light but this didnt seem to work well so i changed it. At the moment i have the plant on my window sil soacking up some intense sun light! when it gets dark il move it back to the little grtow room! dunno what to do next really but il have to wait n see if they grow or just flop!

Yeah, il try to keep everyone updated! ive added a pic where you can see my second grow room. Also can you people tell me if there is anything wrong with the light that i am using?? its is 100 watts, but only uses 20 watts of electricity.

 

Another thing... My plant looks as if it is stretching or has been stretched? also should the leaves be bigger?? Please let me know!! Thankss

 

The grow room is under my boiler inside a cupboard thingy.. It stays nice and warm - there is also some air circulation - What do you lot think??

Gday Ganjaholic ,

I reckon that light would wanna still be a bit closer man , about 2cm , they burn fairly cool those CF's eh.

20 watt did U say , that should be just enough to grow a small plant (2 or more would be better ofc.)

What you need to do tho , Is get some reflective stuff goin , like U had in the PC case

You could either make up your own box , Hang up and around some white plastic or sheet ,

Or one of the easiest things you could do is make up a reflector (Chinamans Hat) out of Aluminuim Foil.

Just get a long sheet , fold in half for stability (Try not to crinkle too much ) , and roll it into a giant cone , then just trim it up to size , cut off the point , slip it around your bulb and attach (Tape , blu tak or just mould it) o.k.. . You could potentially make something like this that hangs on your bulb and covers the whole pot U know

I used to do this all the time , This is a very cheap and easy way to capture more of the light.

Btw. The cloudy (Diffused) side of the foil is best reflector o.k.

If you need me to explain this more , just ask , No Worries o.k. (Its pretty basic tho)

Well hopefully that all made sense and was at least some help to you , (Not like my ealier posts , man I dont know what the hell I'm thinkin sometimes , all I had to say was put it closer to the light hehe oh well.)

Lots of people are saying different things!!

 

Yes, plants will trigger flowering only when recieving 12/12 (autoflowing strains is the exception)

 

Yes, try and get the light as close as possible without burning it. To do this practically and for freejust put your hand bnear the top of the canopy of the plant. If you can hold you hand there without it burning and/or causing pain that's how fare your light needs to be.

 

Use some thing to raise the plant up to avoid too much streatch.

 

The new pot is ok. Personally I wouldn't have bothered about repotting it , but I would have trown some phone books under the plant to get it closer to that fluro.

 

Look after that "seedling" by not putting to much water in that pot. A slight breeze using an 'occelating fan' will help strengthing up the stem by providing a very slight wind.

 

Don't worry too much about the streatch. You can fix that buy buring it deeper next time you repot.

 

Also a tip on repotting. Repot it when the pot is dry. You won't interupt the plant & it's alot less messy.

CHEERS 4 THE ADVICE PEEPS! I dont want to change the pot now, i probably wont need to..? IL try n put some foil inside like bud man suggested. The light will also be moved closer to the plant too. (The light is 100 watts but only uses 20 watts of electricity!) thanks for the help people, il be adding some more pics later on today..

Just a quick post now ...

Um... Yeah , U had the right Idea with the P.c. Case , but as someone already mentioned , I think that light may be the wrong spectrum. Those CF's are much better (20Wt = 15$ max ?) , Two of those , inserted in the case with foil (other way round ) , would make a good little starting chamber , especially if U could get a bit of air circulating thru it (Simple pc fan would do )

Um... I don't want this to be too long , But , i've grown no full on hydro setups , But I've done quite a few smaller cupboard grows and such , with not much money either , and U can get a bit of A smoke + Growin' is so fun and be very addictive as U will know and U learn alot for when/if U ever get the freedom to grow a few decent plants

Hmmmmmm..... i have thrown the pc case away as its shit and too small. Im not proppa proppa serious in to growing weed - its something just that ive always wanted to do. if i was very serious i would have brought one of them hid lamps. The plants are growing nicely, the only thing im concerned about is the stretching (should be better now as light has been lowered). for the rest il just have to wait and see.. can some people post some of their pics here plz? just so i can compare!

Hey GH, here's a pic of the room that i mentioned earlier.

Space is about 700W x 600D x 600H (mm)

 

Reflector I made at work (fringe benefits?)

6 x 18w cfl @ $3.50ea=$21

Light fittings I had, but are only about ($4ea) $24

Chain & Hooks(to hang reflector) $3

Fans (80mm in, 100mm out) and Power Supply out of old PC $0

The Digital Timer is overkill (it's waiting for the 400w HPS to be setup elsewhere!), a $10 one would do for fluros

 

 

note that most of the light emitted from these bulbs is at 90 degrees, but a deep cone reflector like Budman described will prob account for that in yours

 

The biggest mistake I made here was positioning the power outlet so low

if it was at the top I could water them in situ, instead I remove them each time (to avoid electirification!)
