Pictorial...How to clean Coco, Perlite, Geolite.

Recommended Posts

Coco, perlite, geolite. It's a fantastic, trouble free media.

Best of all, you can use it over and over again if you clean it right.

After harvest, let the root ball/pot dry out for a few weeks. Then you can clean the media ready for the next crop.

Here's the rooted media hehe.

You need some 5mm wire mesh and a catcher!

Chuck on a good few handfuls of the rooted media and rub it around, the coco/perlite will go thru the mesh leaving the roots and geolite. Pluck the roots out (they gather into balls as you rub the media making removal easy)

Tip off the geolite.

Which leaves the roots in the mesh.

Dump the roots on the floor.

In the catcher you'll find nice clean coco/perlite!

This is my way, it's not the only way but I hope it helps.

Great stuff Hanky Thanks for that!

I've been trying to manually scavenge my clayballs outta the medium and I dump the perlite/coco onto the compost. Won't be doing that again thanks to your tute! :devilred:

Now, where can one get some 5mm mesh, I'm assuming Bunnings/Home Hardware type places would stock it yes?
