I am in a bind here, due to how the economy is its not easy getting a ballast with the prices they want for them... If I have to I can construct one no problem. Thing is I have no clue at all where to start, what would I be searching for? Would they be called ballast kits? Then you put them together? Can you build one up thats say 250w to allow 2 bulbs to plug in or would you need a 500w to do this? What do I type in ebay to find these? I have no clue so many unanswered questions I have and I dont know where to look for help at all! I found these so far am I on the right track? http://www.1000bulbs.com/250-Watt-Metal-Ha...-Ballast/32972/ http://www.lighthousesupply…

hey guys, so obviously from what i've learnt we use different lights in propagation, veg, and bud stages. after doing quick bits of research it seems like the best way for me to go on a personal grow would be fluoro because of the cheaper running costs. i wanted to know anyone's opinion on the best sorts of lights to use with the least power consumption. the more cost effective the better. would fluoro's be best all rounders (cheap running, easy, no heat issues) or a smaller 150w cfl? thanks for the help fellas. oh also i get lumens.. but people throw around things like 4000k (4 thousand thousands seems big) and it's in terms of the spectrum and that would mean it's a whi…

after my ballast crapped out i did some research on a rebuild.I AM NOT AN ELECTICIAN.I ONLY MADE SOME PHONE CALLS and thought id share.I looked into turning my 1000w hps ballast into a switchable.i looked around and found some stores offer to adda switch to a standard ballast for $50.i called advance ballast tech support and they said a hps transformer could not be switched to a mh,totally different.so i thought how can these co. just add a switch.after many phone calls and no help i found a guy that seemed to know his shit.he said switchable ballast components are the same as standard and yes all you have to do is add a switch.the reason tech support said different was …

hey everyone over the last couple of weeks I have been hearing things from members that are leaving me gobsmacked. I have always gone to extreme lengths to keep my temps to what I always thought was optimal: 26-28 degrees celsius. I have now been told that 'heat' is needed to keep up resin production, and being told by some that their grow room is reaching temps of 40-50 degrees celsius. I suppose the definition of 'heat' is open to debate but wouldn't temps of 40+ put the plant into total shut down? I would love it if temps as high as 40 are good as I would not have a battle on my hands, but this goes against everything I have ever heard, read, learnt, and practiced. I…

SYLVANIA twin 18w triphosphor 4000k (cool white) Hi folks, I bought this light a few weeks ago in the hope of using it to grow seedlings under it just to get a head start on the next grow when the current one finshes in 2 months. I bought this light from pond/hydro shop.Pretty sure the guy said it was for growing but it wasn't a dedicated hydro shop and the old guy didn't seem to know that much, also I was under the impression I could just plug it in but it didn't even have a cord the cheeky bugger so I had to wire it myself which was pretty easy thankfully. So will germinates/seedlings grow at all under this light?I was under the impression and from some online r…

Okay fed up cant being able to grow so I am going to do a small grow with only one main purchase LIGHTING. I may get some solutions but this going to be cheap! (i will manure it myself needbe So a cheap 400w is HPS kit $150 Heres my question the compact floros used in like mother cuboards etc, I take it they arent the $3.99 (7w-28w type) ones from Kmart. I dont understand the floros that well, the light doesnt penitrate as well as HPS MH so you need more say eight so if they arent the $3.99 ones then the other ones at the hydro shops around $80 125w (2700k - 200w 500k) If you had 4x125w + 4x200w = 1300w. 8x $80 = $640 around 50cent a watt " " " 4x400w H…

Quick question for you folk: I'm growing indoor and am able to transplant my pots outside during the day in direct tropical summer sun. I do this whenever the sun's out and supplement with lights to make up my chosen 22/2 veg cycle. Question - am I better taking the plants outdoors on OVERCAST days, or would you recommend leaving them under lights. The aim is of course, to get the most amount of light possible. Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone, I'm currently in the process of designing my first grow cabinet. I was looking for a thermometer/relative humidity gauge that I could mount on the outside of the cabinet so I could read the conditions without having to open it. After looking around I could not find anything particularly good. The stuff I could find locally especially sucked. Then I ran across a reference to reptile habitat thermometers online. Controlling the temperature is very important when it comes to housing reptiles, so their thermometers are pretty well designed and accurate. I found this which I think will suit my needs perfectly: http://www.bigappleherp.com/Big-Apple-Delu..…

Hey Guys Im new to this site, thought I might just give a big hey and just say I am very very happy I found this site! I am currently nutting out my first grow, and even though I just spent last night reading as many old posts as I could on heaps of different topics, I think I need a bit of help on a few little things, so here we go! The proposed grow room is a cuboard that is in a small office like room on the top floor of a two storey house, it is in the corner of the house and windows face the back yard. The cuboard has a width of 2100mm, a depth of 440mm, and a height of 1790mm. It also has a vent in the bottom right hand corner. So now you know the lay out, …
