TASMANIA'S Country Women's Association wants cannabis legalised as a treatment for the terminally ill. The association's state conference voted overwhelmingly in favour of a motion on the issue yesterday. It wants state and federal governments to legislate so the drug can be a prescription pain relief treatment for people with non-curable conditions such as cancer, HIV, and multiple sclerosis. The motion was raised by Launceston's Riverside branch. Branch delegate Ailsa Bond, a retired pharmacist, told the conference the active ingredient in cannabis, tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, had demonstrated benefits for terminally ill people including pain relief and appeti…

A TEENAGER who left a house with a man to buy marijuana was later found stabbed to death and stuffed into a stormwater drain, a court heard yesterday. The Supreme Court in Brisbane heard the bloodied body of Dylan Charles Anderton, 14, was found with multiple wounds to his head and chest in the drain near a shopping centre at Kingston on Brisbane's southern outskirts. Sean Stewart Clayton, 32, pleaded not guilty to Anderton's murder, which allegedly took place on November 25, 2001. Prosecutor Simone Bain told the jury there was not much doubt Clayton told police he killed Anderton but that the issue could be about his intent at the time. Ms Bain said Clayton also…

August 31, 2003 TERRITORY MP Marion Scrymgour will not stand down as the head of the Government's Substance Abuse Committee after her son was convicted of dealing drugs last week. Ms Scrymgour told the Sunday Territorian yesterday her "determination to make a difference" had increased after her 22-year-old son, Richard Maurice Daiyi, was given a four-month suspended jail sentence for possessing cannabis, possessing a traffickable quantity of cannabis and unlawfully supplying cannabis. Daiyi was arrested in the community of Wadeye, southwest of Darwin, on August 13. "In my capacity as a parent I want to apologise to all the remote Aboriginal communities in the No…

The son of Territory Government MP Marion Scrymgour has been caught dealing drugs. Richard Maurice Daiyi, 22, pleaded guilty to three charges. He was given a four-month suspended jail sentence for possessing cannabis, possessing a traffickable quantity of cannabis and unlawfully supplying cannabis. Magistrate David Loadman also gave Daiyi a 12-month good behaviour bond and confiscated his earnings from dealing drugs. Daiyi, 22, sold cannabis at Wadeye, southwest of Darwin. Ms Scrymgour chairs the Government's substance abuse committee. Last night she said she felt ``hurt and betrayed'' by her son. A police insider told the Northern Territory News he was c…

Police left with drug raid overdose By MARK BUTTLER 27aug03 POLICE were ordered not to raid big drug crops because of a shortage of storage space. Officers at Sunshine in Melbourne's west were told they should not execute warrants on large hydroponic marijuana set-ups in their area. An order sent to 55 officers at the station stated the order would apply until further notice. "At present the property office is so full we are unable to store any more," the memo states. The police force last night said after the ban was revealed that the order was no longer valid. But Police Association secretary Paul Mullett said the situation was nonsensical and should be of gre…

Prosecuting doctors who tell of

Prosecuting doctors who tell of marijuana's medical benefits is wrong. The Justice Department has decided that criminalizing marijuana -- a perfectly defensible position -- also requires criminalizing talking about marijuana. That's the upshot of the decision to appeal the ruling of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in Conant v. Walters, which barred the government from prosecuting doctors who inform patients about the benefits of medical marijuana. Federal policy on medical marijuana has grown more inflexible even as the scientific community's view of its efficacy grows more fluid. Marijuana, like other controlled substances, is available only in ti…

The Crucifixion passion play Come along to Byron Bay, NSW, Australia, July 10 2003 to stand along side local Nimbin legend Rusty Harris as he defends us in the rediculous war on drugs. Be a part of the festival atmosphere. The story in a Nutshell... (as told by generic hippie) Rusty Harris was illegally (or at least immorally, thats yet to be decided) searched by a marijuana sniffing dog named "Thor" while he was lawfully minding his own fucking business on the streets of Byron Bay. The upshot of this for the local Nazi's is it gave them the opportunity to bust Rusty with 2 ounces of pot and $900 in ca$h, which of course, they stole from him. The Nazi's claim the money w…

World Leading Health Journal Opines For Patients To Receive Federal Exemptions To Use Medical Marijuana July 30, 2003 - Brisbane, Australia Brisbane, Queensland: Governments should grant federal exemptions to qualified patients who find therapeutic benefits from the medicinal use of marijuana, conclude a pair of researchers writing in the current issue of the journal CNS Drugs. "The best prospects for the medical use of cannabinoids lie in finding ways to deliver THC that do not involve smoking and in developing synthetic cannabinoids that produce therapeutic effects with a minimum of psychoactive effects," write Professors Wayne Hall and Louisa Degenhardt of the Of…

A COMMERCIAL cannabis operation worth a staggering $6.3 million was uncovered by firefighters on Friday night during a house fire in Pennant Hills. It is believed the fire started as a result of an electrical fault relating to the sophisticated lighting and hydroponic system used to cultivate the crop. Police described the haul, which included more than 1300 plants and a large quantity of loose plant leaves, as one of the biggest ever found in western Sydney. "This would be one of the biggest we've found so far; we've only recently started to increase our investigations in regards to hydroponics," Drug Squad Det Sgt Steve Nealon said. "People don't think there's m…

found this article written bu Dr. Shulgin, "the father of ecstasy". Interesting mainly because I wasn't aware that a government research found out that mj was safe in the early 70s, but Nixon suppressed it anyway; On the Question of Marijuana's Safety Dear Dr. Shulgin: Based on the drug research that you have done, I would love to have your opinions concerning the use of marijuana. Does it cause learning problems? Does it damage the ability to store long-term memory? Does it make something go wrong in the brain? With all the anti-marijuana zealots out there, it is hard to get to the truth. -- M.J. Dear M.J.: I am afraid I cannot be much of a source of truth h…
