Cannabis drug may help fight obesity By Amie Ferris-Rotman Tue Jan 30, 11:11 AM ET LONDON (Reuters) - Human trials of an experimental treatment for obesity derived from cannabis, which is commonly associated with stimulating hunger, are scheduled to begin in the second half of this year, Britain's GW Pharmaceuticals Plc announced Tuesday. Several other companies, such as Sanofi-Aventis, which is investigating Acomplia, are working on new drugs that will switch off the brain circuits that make people hungry when they smoke cannabis. GW Pharma, however, says it has derived a treatment from cannabis that could help suppress hunger. "The cannabis plant has 70 diff…

DRUG raids across Queensland's Sunshine Coast have ended in the arrest of 45 people for 130 offences, police say. Officers executed 50 search warrants across the region, stretching from coastal areas to the hinterland in a massive week-long operation last week. A police spokeswoman said among those arrested were two people charged with trafficking. The other 43 people were charged with mostly drug-related offences, she said. Two hydroponic set-ups and one amphetamine laboratory were found, as well as weapons. A large amount of cash and a number of laptops, alleged to be proceeds of crime, were also seized. Those charged will appear in the Maroochydore, Calound…

IT was hardly glamorous but it did the job. A Sydney police officer commandeered a bicycle to chase a teenager who fled while he was being questioned yesterday in suburban Redfern. Officers began chasing the youth when he ran off at 9.45pm yesterday but lost him. But when he was spotted again a few minutes later, a detective sergeant was not going to lose his man again. He stopped a passing cyclist and commandeered his bike to chase the youth. Shortly afterwards, with a disclocated shoulder the result of an arrest struggle, the police officer had his suspect. The youth has been charged with stealing, assaulting and resisting police and trespassing. He will…

A new report titled "Where there's smoke - cannabis and mental health" has been released. It was featured (splashed) in our local rag yesterday for some lovely boxing day anticannabis diatribe, no doubt! The link to it is here - http://www.mhca.org.au/documents/MHCACannabisfinalLR.pdf Heads up to Niall, Jess and our other cruisaders. I haven't had chance to swallow it all yet. Found section one summary to negate the value of the whole study. Funny enough, another government funded study into a phony issue. Likely better entitled "Where there's smoke and mirrors - governent misappropiation of funds and propaganda." Onto some quotes from the document.. "Recent p…
