Federal and state police now have the power to use computer spyware to gather evidence in a broad range of investigations after legal changes last week. The Surveillance Devices Act allows police to obtain a warrant to use software surveillance technologies, including systems that track and log keystrokes on a computer keyboard. The law applies to the Australian Federal Police and to state police investigating Commonwealth offences. link to story http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/12/12/...l?oneclick=true

Gday all I was thiking of getting Mobile Broadband Internet due to me currently always being on the move , but theres a few concerns that i have. Due to having a sim card like a mobile phone, is it more likely to be traced and tracked back to you alot easier than having the Internet hooked up to a landline at home? And Would it make a difference if you used things like Tor and Privoxy to hide your steps and IP address? What are your thoughts on the matter... Dallas

G`day all.I`m not what you would call a genius when it comes to computers, and all the security problems that come with using the internet. So when I saw this on the local news (only 1 day before it is supposed to cause a problem.......fuckin media assholes don`t give ya much notice),I wondered if anyone at this site was familiar with this supposed problem, and how to deal with it.So I thought I would post it,and perhaps see if people have protected themselves against it.Below is some info from the Mcafee site.Apparently you need a patch from Microsoft, but who trusts Microsoft? Any thoughts???? Lately we have seen lots of media coverage on how the Conficker worm is go…

Hi all. I've been using Macs now as my home computer platform since 2000 and am pretty thoroughly converted. They tend to be more secure, less troublesome to setup and operate, and they have fantastic software. I thought it might be interesting to throw around some thoughts for any Mac users on OSA. Buying Apple hardware and software - My guidelines And yes, I've broken a few of these in the past, and learnt from them, so here goes: 1. Never buy the very first revision of a new Apple product - These are called "Revision A" in Mac circles, and refers to just launched products that haven't yet had their first bump in speed/memory/performance/price. At time of writing, t…

I just heard a cop talking on the radio about the pedophile ring that was busted today. He said 'no matter what sophisticated security you try to hide behind on the net, even encryption, they will bust you.' I doubt they would put that effort into harmless people like us but it does show what they have at their disposal. Unless of course he was telling fibs and their info came from another source.

Hey all. I'm using my wife's vista based computer, and every time I go to sign in at this web site's sign in page, I only type "R" and it gives me the option of my username to choose from. Call me paranoid, but if the law were to sit at the keyboard, I'd like them to work a little harder to figure out my internet identity. I've played around in "Security" and other settings, have disbaled a setting specifically sounding like it's the culprit, something like "complete username and passwords", which I of course disabled. But I still have the problem. Anyone got any ideas? thanks guys rob

I was just about to hit "enter" and sing up at you tube, to upload some silly home movie stuf, and it struck me there's probably a world of spyware, adware, drive_ya_mad_ware, and goodness knows what else. Can anyone tell me what the deal is? Like if I sign up, just what can i expect to find "on the other side", and how hard is it to live with? Also, seems like a lot of smoker vid gets hosted on the site (a pretty impressive collection of bongs on one clip), so it seems unlikely to have to law kick ya door in for a low key plant pic or two ? Or too easy to track back? Mainly concerned about the toolbars, adwares, spywares, help ya grandma across the street wares... …

i think that what has happened over at OG is something all internet uses should be worried about. when using oz stoners, use an IP anonymizer just to make sure go to zdnet.com and search downloads for anonymizer and you will find many. u can use them for the trial period then when it expires just download a different one . they hide your IP address. for example right now keepleft is in columbia Congratulations! IP Address Changed Your new fake IP address is: 63.245.102.104. Fake IP address location: Colombia . To use this new fake IP address, you must stay within this web browser window. Switching to other windows reverts back to original IP address, please …
