saw this on the interwebs today. thought this be the place to post it. http://us.cnn.com/2013/03/16/opinion/schneier-internet-surveillance/index.html The Internet is a surveillance stateBy Bruce Schneier, Special to CNNupdated 11:39 AM EDT, Sat March 16, 2013 "Maintaining privacy on the Internet is nearly impossible. If you forget even once to enable your protections, or click on the wrong link, or type the wrong thing, and you've permanently attached your name to whatever anonymous service you're using. Monsegur slipped up once, and the FBI got him. If the director of the CIA can't maintain his privacy on the Internet, we've got no hope."

Google have just released this information for anyone wondering about the process. It's US based but Google's Policies in Australia would be very similar, just without the paranoid hard line laws the US have sometimes. http://googleblog.blogspot.com.au/2013/01/transparency-report-what-it-takes-for.html

Good Morning all. I was just informed about a nasty little piece going around the internet. Now I don't put a LOT of stock in the whole "The sky is falling" panics, but I recently had my tech tampered with so I'm no high alert with my tech. So this I felt is definitely worth sharing, expecially considering how the ACMA is reacting. You can read more about it here on itNews http://www.itnews.com.au/News/295408,dnschanger-trojan-nets-10000-aussies.aspx I had most of my data backed up so all I lost was a few photos and things that weren't terribly important. Oh, and a lot of time in having to fix my shit. I know there are many members here that scoff at the idea …

If you belong to ANY Yahoo! Groups - be aware that Yahoo! is now using “Web Beacons” to track every Yahoo! Group user. They’re similar to cookies, but allow Yahoo! to record every Web site and every group you visit, even when you’re not connected to Yahoo!. Look at its updated privacy statement. About halfway down the page, in the section on cookies, you will see a link that says WEB BEACONS. Web beacon Yahoo group cookies privacy Big Brother tracking. Click on the phrase "Web Beacons." On the page that opens, find a paragraph entitled "Outside the Yahoo! Network." In that section find a little "Click Here to Opt Out" link that will let you "opt-out" of its sno…

I've just bought an external hard drive (Maxtor 500GB) to put all my incriminating info on, and then I'm going to hide it. The problem is that when I delete the files off my internal hard drive, I know they can still be recovered. Can anyone tell me how do I PERMANENTLY delete the files so they can not be retrieved? Cheers in advance

Gday I figured this would be the right spot to post this up. Everyone's phone numbers are now on Facebook. Go to the top right of the screen, click on Account, then click on Edit Friends, go left on the screen and click on Contacts. All phone numbers are synced and published via the FB app on your phone... click through 'visit this page' in the para on the right... and see how to switch this off on your phone. This is true. I checked myself and many of my friends numbers are there. But now Im nuking it from orbit... ... the only way to be sure.

Here is a screen shot of my windows live messenger. It just seems strange, that some words (and only certain words) are coming up underlined. Does anyone else get this? Could it mean a problem?

Hey folks, So as per the thread title, i'm curious how other members store their 'incriminating' grow photos on their computer? and past being curious i'm thinking I may be able to help some of you make the physical hdd space you store them on more secure, via encryption. Grow photo's are a snapshot for the police to pinpoint when you started growing and it's just plain bad for them to get their grubby mitts on that kind of info! Long read here but might be worth ya while. This thread is intended to be informative, while also serving as assistance to anyone willing to give one of these methods a go. This thread may be converted into a tutorial on how to safely store …

heya all dont know if this is the right spot for it so feel free to move or whatever. The topic at hand today that ive just read into in geo-tagged images, and how they could be dangerous for us folk. first off you should prolly read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geotagging - and go down to the bottom section about dangers of geotagging pretty much what it is, quite a few new generation smart phones and such like iphone and similar have built in gps tagging of photo's - most of the time it's done automatically with out you knowing, but there are options to turn it off - which is HIGHLY RECOMENED. easiest way to do this is make sure its a old digicam or the likes …
