Texas School Nixes Marijuana-Laced Treats Fri Apr 30,11:16 AM ET SHARYLAND, Texas - Sharyland school officials have taken the buzz out of sharing home-baked snacks with classmates. Students in the Sharyland Independent School District can't share their sack lunches or any other food from home with others without school permission after a student was arrested for giving marijuana-laced brownies to friends. "We do not permit a parent (or anyone else) to bring in food for students other than their own children without getting permission from the building administration," district Superintendent Sandra Reed said in a letter to parents Wednesday. The …

:: I thought this was a beauty! Cracked me up anyway. An Aboriginal woman put a curse on Prime Minister John Howard as he visited the regional Victorian town of Colac today. Clad in possum skin and traditional tribal makeup, the woman stood silently outside Colac Performing Arts Centre while Mr Howard got into his waiting vehicle after addressing a crowd of more than 500 members of the local community. Embattled Aboriginal leader Geoff Clark and his supporters watched as the woman known as Moopor pointed a bone at Mr Howard, who just smiled and waved. The silent protest comes as Mr Howard last week announced the scrapping of the peak Aboriginal organisation ATS…

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- It was a case of being in the wrong pants at the wrong time. Kendrick Gibson, 26, was arrested by police Thursday after failing to surrender himself for booking on a misdemeanor citation for a suspended license charge. Authorities went to Gibson's residence to arrest him. With police inside his residence, Gibson began getting dressed, putting on a pair of blue jeans. He then suddenly took them off for another pair. The officers became suspicious and found plastic bags containing crack cocaine and a small amount of marijuana in the pockets of the first pair. Gibson also now faces charges of felony possession of crack for resale and misdemeanor m…

AUTOMATIC and unconditional welfare payments to people living in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Lands must end to encourage young indigenous people to seek work, says the Lands' new co-ordinator. A straight-talking Bob Collins yesterday said confiscating and selling the vehicles of drug, alcohol and petrol smugglers was also needed to stamp out an "epidemic" of substance abuse. He said boredom and a lack of incentive to work or contribute to the community had led to a spiral of drug use, petrol sniffing, violence and suicide. "There is a major piece of public policy that's got to be addressed at the Commonwealth level," Mr Collins said. "If you want to give people a re…

Well EMI and some other CD producers have introduced copy-protected CD's. (That's if your lucky not to own a Mac, as it would mean a trip to the PC store for repairs) Protected means the Windows Media Player can't play (or copy or even see the files) the CD, supposably meant to autoplay but I haven't got it going. Frustration as myself like millions of other have since incorporated my stereo into my PC and thus without the Media Player the CD is blank and useless.... I can still play the CD on the PS or my walkman, but as I never do this I doubt it, prefering compilation CD's I have burnt (in the second case, six channel sound in the first). I don't buy CD's to individual…

450 pounds of marijuana delivered to youth center March 17, 2004 — A surprising delivery to a Chicago youth center Wednesday-- 450 pounds of marijuana. The deliveryman found the drugs in a box marked "auto parts" at the El Centro De La Causa School in city's Pilsen community. He couldn't lift it, so opened the box to see if he could carry the various pieces. That's when police say he found the drugs. Investigators aren't sure if the delivery was sent to the wrong address or if the school was expecting a package and got the wrong one. dont know the source for this. found it on another site.

Richard Stratton knows what it's like to run a magazine with unconventional demographics. Before he took over as publisher and editor-in-chief of High Times, he ran Prison Life, a beloved but now dead journal for men and women behind bars. A fascinating subject, for sure - but not exactly the upscale population that most advertisers seek. "The readers didn't have much money to spend," Stratton conceded with a smile. "And they couldn't get out to the store." Well, compared to that captive audience, how hard can the just-say-yes crowd be? So Stratton, who himself did eight years in prison on a marijuana-smuggling conviction, has now turned his attention to the venerab…

What has the environmental impact of both an SUV and a fridge? Here's a clue: You're using it right now. It turns out your computer is a much bigger material and energy hog than previously believed. The most effective way to reduce its oversized environmental footprint is to increase its useful lifespan, according to a new book released Monday, Computers and the Environment, by the United Nations University in Tokyo. The average desktop PC and 17-inch CRT monitor takes an SUV-sized 1.8 tons of water, fossil fuels and chemicals to make, the book reports. As for energy use, a computer's lifetime energy impact is about the same as a refrigerator, they report. Whi…

MUSICIAN David Crosby has been arrested on marijuana and gun possession charges at a Times Square hotel, police said. Crosby, 62, a two-time inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, had checked out of the hotel but left a piece of luggage behind, police said. A hotel worker found the bag and went through it looking for identification, and called police after finding marijuana, a .45-calibre handgun and two knives, authorities said. Crosby was met by police when he returned to pick up the bag, investigators said. Crosby, a founding member of both The Byrds and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, had been performing at the B.B. King Blues Club off Times Square and a…

Mick Jagger was at the height of his fame and king of the sex, drugs and rock'n' roll lifestyle. But when cannabis was found in a famous raid on his Chelsea flat in 1969, he was anything but blasé. Files released today reveal that the Rolling Stones frontman believed he had been framed by a police officer who then demanded a £1,000 bribe to get him off the charges. The papers from the Director of Public Prosecutions show a full internal inquiry was launched at Scotland Yard - but only after Jagger's partner, actress Marianne Faithfull, declared that she "hated coppers" because the couple had been set up. The DPP file, released this month at the National Archives,…

Drug Companies Pay Off Government to Sell More Anti-Psychotic Drugs Ill post it here for ppl that get lazy like me an dont feel like clickin the ling The drug industry knows how to market their drugs. For the big named drugs they spend billions of dollars on consumer advertising, but to sell medicines that treat schizophrenia the companies focus on a smaller group of customers, the state officials who oversee treatment for patients with mental illness. These patients make states among the largest buyers of antipsychotic drugs. Past evidence has shown, since the mid-1990s a group of major drug companies had campaigned to convince state officials that a new gener…
