Aus vs US sockets

Recommended Posts

No american and australian power are veryy diffferent , infact it is more than double the voltage so I would be VERY cautious about what you rig up and how you do it

Best way iof you wanna use US stuff is to have all your lightign made for a US conection and then use a transformer to convert the power , A PLUG ADAPTER WILL NOT WORK I can't stress that enough ;P all it will do is leave you with fried equipment that can fit into our power plugs HE HE so yeah get a transformer or you will blow the lot ( I probably have one or two in the attic from old ones when I moved back over here , I'm happy to check if you like )

don't mean to step on anybodies toes, but pure, a HPS bulb requires a ballast, and the balast takes care of the conversion.

The rest is the same ;) this includes the bulb, the socket and the reflector

just make sure your ballast is made for Oz

HPS bulbs are usually for E39/E40 sockets (giant edison)

no worries pure, just don't wanna come across as a nay sayer ;) yes, safety first

its true, you wouldn't wanna run electrical appliances that aren't made for australia, unless you can afford having your house burned down.

HID bulbs are the exception, cause the lights and ballasts are standardizied by ANSI, they use this (american standard) worldwide:

whats missing in this list are the 430W HPS, the standard for them is S145, they have a different starter than the 400W HPS ballasts.
