ok since this was my original floros post i though instead of taking up more space id just ask another question here about the same thing but on a much grander scale i can get 150 8 foot long floros now i know that they have to be close to the plant but if you had that many would they have to me that close or could they all just be hanging from all 4 walls of a grow room 40 watts each ballast

since i made this original post i now have 14 plants fucking a man ;) :) :smoke :smoke :smoke :whistling ;)

MH has not got as good watt for lumen conversion rates, I would recommend HPS for simple mathematics of the amount of light produced. That and the fact that you'd be able to use only 3 x 600's to produce more light more efficiently than 4 x 400's would, with only 200w more power used.

To show just how much better you'll do, think about it this way. Your average MH 400w system produces about 40,000 lumens, give or take according to the lamp used. So with 4 x 400w MH units, you'll have 160,000 lumens over your garden. In comparison, a 600w HPS system produces about 100,000 lumens per unit, once again, give or take a bit according to the particular globe. So with 3 x 600w you'll have 300,000 lumens. More than double. :P

Hope you haven't spent your money yet, and hope you listen to the advice given. We're trying to help mate. B)

i know you guys are trying to help and i did and didnt spend my money i won the auction on ebay

i cant find a hps in my price range right now i am spending $110.24 for 4x400hd i am pretty sure i can put off a grow with them and then on my next grow i will have the $$$ to go buy what i really want

i have already found the things i want for my next setup which will be a northern light/big bud and blue widdow hydro coco rtw system 2400watts 22 plants i will also have my own place by then to im at my moms now so i dont have as much space as i would like

basically im doing this grow so i can learn the basics and improve my tecqunicks that i am slowly absorbing off of you guys thanks by the way

theres not a single thing i have done that i didnt read about here first with the exception of what i fucked up on and that was foliar misting to much but back to my main point

i will take that advice as soon as it is possable for me to do so and thnnka you for your concern

also a question i know you are supposed to have about 50 watts per square foot what about more then that what would make them grow faster or is there a set rate of light o grow im pretty sure there would be

also how many lumens per sq foot 50watts but what about lumens

More light typically = more buds, but you have to ramp up everything else to really use it effectively. 50w per square foot is about the minimal ideal levels, although many growers do very respectable grows with less than that.

And dude, you live with your MOM? Does she know you're taking her life in her hands? You get busted, she could lose the lot... Not a good idea IMHO.

Lumens should be somwhere between 2000 at the lowest and 10,000 at the highest, (although I've heard of higher amounts being used) per square foot, but that figure can vary wildly between grows, and you really would want to be somewhere between 4000-10,000 to really do well.

Lumens are also a measure of light, true, and direct comparisons between lights can be measured this way, but to get an absolutely true reading on how effective the light is you'll want to be reading PAR, which is Photosynthetic Active Radiation. This is because lumens are measures of the light the human eye reacts most to, whereas plants are different, and react more to specific ranges in the wavelengths of the blue and /orange red range. As a result lumens per square foot gives you a rough idea of the potential for growth, but only a rough one.

Aim for 50w of HID per sq foot and your lighting will be looked after. Keep the lamps at the lowest possible height without burning the tops, and allowing the most spread of the light over the effective canopy. Light is inversely proportional to how far away the lamp is. Meaning at one foot away a lamp may be putting out say 40,000 lumens per square foot, but at 2 foot that same lamp is only producing 10,000 lumens per square foot. So getting the right distance from the lamp without harming the plants from the heat generated by HID lamps, (a lot) is important.

Also, with your cheap lamps, you might want to invest in new globes, the older a globe the less light it's putting out, at twelve months old most lamps are putting out barely 1/2 of what they're able to produce when new. Aim to change globes every 6 months, or if you really can't afford it make it 12, but you'll do much better with 6 month turnarounds or less.

Good luck.
