Hi F420, don't know if this'll help but here's my 2c...

Firstly, I've never had a problem transplanting seedlings or clones in rockwool to soil, just make sure the cube is well buried and off they go.

However....

I originally transplaned some rockwool-germinated seedlings into "Yates" Seed-raising mix. These seedlings seemed to become very sluggish at growing and weren't looking the most healthy. I've only had this happen when using the Seed-raising mix product, the Yates "Thrive" potting-mix showed nothing like this.

So, perhaps it's because of some chemical or rooting hormone they add to the mix that reacts badly with the rockwool medium?

at a guess i think its probably due to the rooted clone being in rockwool which would be a resonably sterile enviroment, when its planted in soil its then exposed to all sorts of bugs and bacteria, the temp season and weather conditions would affect the severity of this.

just another therory maybe

Hey Ferengi,

Do ya leave the seedling in the rockwool and then transplant? It's more than likely the rockwool giving ya issues mate.

I am using an Amgrow bag of soil too. I've also noticed that it's very high in nitrogen (plants will turn a dark green colour) I think going from rockwool (inert) to soil would in some way shock the plants. That's just my guess ^_^

I transplanted it to the soil when it was about 2 inches tall, but it had roots coming out of the bottom of the cube??

I will try another brand of soil just to see what happens,

Its the rockwool for sure because the other seedlings are doing fine, and they are not in cubes. I directly sowed them.

Got me stumped.

Hey f420,

One of the problems of transplanting indoor plants into the outdoors is ya got 2 "harden it off" very slowly, else the plant will be very stressed and slow 2 grow

try just sitting the wrapped rockwool block on top of ya soil mix and let the roots grow through themselves into the soil mix.

Also bring the soil pot back inside and place under fluro untill rw cubes take hold then take outside slowly adding more hours each day untill hardened off correctly.
