what light to get

Recommended Posts

you will need a fairly high volume and therefore expensive centrifugal or inline fan in the top of the wardrobe for the main extraction

Yea, I use a turbo hydro 250mm. it works well. I actually dont use a aircooled lid, but it is something im considering during the hot summers we have here in Qld.

Work it out mathematically.

Basically, people seem to reccommend anywhere from 50w-100w per square foot 1' x 1'.

I'll use my grow-box as an example.

The Width by Length measurement of my box is 1.01m x 1.59m.

Convert that to Feet and we get (1.01m x 3.28) x (1.59m x 3.28) = 3.3128' x 5.2152'

So my total Square footage for my light-footprint is: 3.3128 x 5.2152 = 17.27691456 square-feet.

I run 2 x 400w lights in my room, so to work out my wattage per square foot is: 800 / 17.28

Therefor, per square-foot of space I run 46.3watts of lights, just under the recommended 50w.

So work out how big your grow space is and calculate what amount of wattage you need for that space.

5x4x6.5feet for that i would want a thousand watt correct that would do about 15 decent sized plants about 2 or 3 feet each i think

should i start them in the buckets they will finish in

whats the best way to cool a 1000 watt the basement is pretty cool ill get a temp tommarow but with a 1000 watt im kinda wondering

what woudl be a good reflector ithe grow room will be constructed as soon as i know what i want so far i know i want a 1000 watt grow light 15 plants i want to use a soil mixture im going to do 24/0 for the first 3 weeks then 20/4 for 3weeks then 16/8 then when im ready to flower ill drop it to 12/12

any suggestions ill post photos of my germination room as soon as the film is develpoed

5 feet long by 4 feet wide?

So 5 x 4 = 20, 20 square feet.

1000/20 = 50, therefore with a 1000watt light you have 50watts per square foot.

Personally though, if you have that much space I think you could go 1 x 1000wHPS and 2 x 400wMH (I'd say 600w but MH's don't come at that wattage).

That would give you

should i start them in the buckets they will finish in

I have been told to start them in smaller pots and pot-up and I've been told

that it's best to germinate in the pots you'll start in.

From personal experience, I'd say it's easiest to germinate in large (2.5' x 2.5') rockwool cubes and after roots penetrate the cubes, plant the cubes in the pots you'll finish them in. I find this the most convenient method for my personal grow-style.

This really depends on where you are, if you were in Vic or Tassie I'd say you could easily cool 1800w's of lights in a basement. Remember, basements are below-ground and somewhat insulated against warmth by above-ground climate changes.

In my room, I have 0 problems cooling 2 x 400w lights in a smaller grow-space than yours, and I've seen other people with 2 x 600w's in a smaller space than mine do fine. However, if your in like Northern NSW or QLD you may have to go crazy on the fans. If it's too hot for 1800w of lights I'd then run 1000w, but 1 x 400MH and 1 x 600HPS.

The grow room will be constructed as soon as i know what i want so far i know i want a 1000 watt grow light 15 plants i want to use a soil mixture im going to do 24/0 for the first 3 weeks then 20/4 for 3weeks then 16/8 then when im ready to flower ill drop it to 12/12

Your grow plan seems fine, if you're growing in soil I reccommend a 50/50 potting-mix/perlite mix. Remember though, most "Premium" potting-mixes contain slow-release fertalizer so go easy on the nutes when you feed them, and feed them only once or twice a week if your potting-mix contains ferts.

I can't say much about your lighting plan, I really just stick with 18/6 for veg and straight to 12/12 when I want to force flowering, works for me.

ill post photos of my germination room as soon as the film is develpoed

I look forward to seeing your bubs :peace:

ok that last post was when i was blazed ok heres what i ment to say i have figured out what i want to do im putting a 1000 watt light on a track that im building myself it will be a 4 foot railing in the shape of an x im plan on enlarging after my first grow one i get some cash but im doing a sog in buckets im using a 60/40 soil perlite mix giving probally a 20/4 or 24/0 light till they are a coupe feet high then i think im going to force flowering at least for the first grow that would work would it not imin a basement so i have no worries about smell heat but how do i lower humidity its pretty damp down there
