Arrests smash 'national drug ring'

From: Agence France-Presse

ORGANISED crime detectives believe the arrest of three men in Perth has broken a national drug syndicate responsible for shipping thousands of dollars worth of methylamphetamine into Western Australia.

As a result of the arrests yesterday, police said around $700,000 worth of assets, including more than $200,000 in cash, would be seized and frozen under WA proceeds of crime laws.

Operation Marlee was launched in March, targeting the activities of a suspected national crime network responsible for the drug trafficking, WA Police said.

Investigations identified members of the network in WA and Victoria, and the operation climaxed last Friday when 585g of crystal methylamphetamine and 3g of heroin were seized from a city hotel room.

Yesterday, police searched a number of homes in the southern suburbs of Perth, allegedly seized a further 473g of cannabis, 32g of ecstasy, 6g of methylamphetamine, steroids, cannabis plants and more than $56,000 in cash.

Three Perth men were arrested and charged with a range of drug offences including conspiracy to possess methylamphetamine, selling or supplying methylamphetamine, and possession of cannabis.

Jayde Edward Fisher, 27, of South Perth, Mark Anthony Barac, 24, of Yangebup, and Adriano Giuseppe Mancuso, 26, of Beeliar, all appeared in Perth Magistrates Court today.

Mr Fisher was remanded in custody, while Messrs Barac and Mancuso were bailed.

All will appear again on August 19.

sure the piggers scored a fair amount of drugs and cash from our point of view but for the big wigs of the drug trade that amount was no more than a fart in the breeze , its like with bill gates, if he drops $100, by the time he goes to pick it up he has made more than $100  but that applies to the big wigs in this case ;)

The LEO's like to take every chance they can to make things out to be more serious than they are too, it gets them a better budget if the politicians think it's a vote losing problem and the media likes to beat it up too, sensationalism can be a big attention getter.
