Cannabis seized in drug raid.

Recommended Posts

POLICE have seized 60 cannabis plants and hydroponic growing equipment following a raid on a rural property near Castlemaine yesterday.

Detectives from the Major Drug Investigations Unit executed a search warrant on the Hoinsville Road property in Elphinstone about 8.20am.

Police from the Bendigo Divisional Response Unit were also involved in the raid.

A large quantity of cannabis - ranging from seedlings to large plants - was seized.

Police said hydroponic equipment, including chemicals, lights and electrical wire was also discovered on the property.

Detective Sergeant Jason Kelly, from the Major Drug Investigations Unit, said the hydroponic set-up had been in a large shed.

He said power had been bypassed and electricity stolen in order to run the set-up.

A 53-year-old man has been charged with the cultivation and trafficking of a commercial quantity of cannabis.

The man, from Elphinstone, was remanded in custody after making no application for bail.

He is expected to face Bendigo Magistrates Court on June 9.
