Drugs seized - cash, weapons

Recommended Posts

POLICE have busted alleged drug-dealing operations in a small central Victorian town, seizing cannabis, cash and weapons during raids yesterday.

Members of the Bendigo Divisional Response Unit joined with Inglewood and Wedderburn Police in a crackdown on illegal drug activity.

Two houses in Inglewood were searched, with the raids following a five-week investigation into the distribution of cannabis within the town.

A drug squad dog from Melbourne was also used to assist in yesterday's operation.

The first stop was a Grant Street address, where police located a quantity of cannabis, cash and weapons.

A 57-year-old woman was subsequently charged with trafficking, possessing and using cannabis.

She was bailed to appear at Bendigo Magistrates Court in June.

Police then swooped on a house in Southey Street where a quantity of cannabis, which police allege was made up into deals, was seized.

A 41-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man were both arrested and are expected to be charged on summons with possessing, using and trafficking cannabis.

Inglewood police Senior Constable Mick Balazs said investigations into illegal drug activity in the region would continue.

"Anyone dealing in drugs will be spoken to in due course - it is something that will not be tolerated," he said.

Yesterday, Kyneton police also seized drugs during a raid on a house in Mollison Street.

Three large cannabis plants were discovered at the property after a police received an anonymous tip-off through Crime Stoppers.

A woman, aged in her 30s, was subsequently interviewed.

Police said the woman would probably be charged with cultivating and possessing cannabis.
