instink
Hey guys, I've been reading about how if you use a green light you can check on plants during their dark cycle, I got some green cellophane and wrapped it two layers over a torch... will this be good enough? Or should I just get a green light bulb? I really don't want to disturb my girls sleep pattern, but silly me made their night period when I'm most awake and available to check on them.... whoops
instink
I took a picture.... I could always wrap some more layers over it but then it would be hard for me to see... what do you think? This is with some extra layers of cello.... its much greener but very dim.... hard to see.... Edited April 29, 2005 by instink
Pure
It will disturb them the green light thing is a myth but if you intend on workign it the way it suposedly does , then you need a 100% green light , with zero% white light some led's would cover ya for this but you need to make sure they have zero white light hope that helps personaly I would adjust my sleeping habbits to allow a little checking durign lights on , there isn't much to see at lights out if you want to mesure temps ect just use a hydrometr/thermometer with a min max function , and if you wanna just have a peep at the plants , turn one cf on high up in the room , for say 30 misn before or after lights out , this will act as a dawn or dusk depending which you choose and won't disturb it
Tom
When it comes to their next light period extend it until the time or would suit you best then set it for it's 12 hour light/dark period from that time.
instink
K thanks... you sure this won't stress them or affect them at all?
jackfrost
Using A Green Bulb Even if a small amount of light interrupts the dark period, flowering can be hindered. It is wise to use a green bulb (most shops sell them)in the room if you need to do any work during the dark period. The green light is reflected off the plant, without any of it being absorbed to interfere with the flowering process. You can buy them from most lighting shops a 40watt green bulb, about $5.0 Jack

Tom
You need to check the plants during the daylight hours so you can check the system properly, it's hard to check the operation of equipment that is shut down. The plants count the dark hours much more closely than the daylight ones so you will get away with changing them as long as you don't make a habit of it, they will stress a touch but not as much as they would suffer during one night-time maintenance visit. indooraussie
if i check mine in a dark period i use a normal torch.torches as in the standard ones do not have enough light intensity to effect them.if it did then what would a full moon do to a outdoor grow. also has to be combined with uv rays and a longer period of sustained light rather than a check up of 15 mins under torch light.if torches of low intensity would affect them then why do we grow under mh,hps or flouros? indooraussie
not trying to start flame war on this.personally i dont care.plants do not count dark hours.the flowering hormone they devolep in the dark period is the trigger not hours but the pre determined levels in their genetic code.the longer the dark period the higher the level.they flower when they reach that level over a short sustained period usually 2 weeks.an autoflowering strain needs a very low level.some strains need the traditional 12hrs some will go at 14/10 some will auto at 18/6.some will go in a week 12/12 some take 2 weeks 12/12.some will preflower at 24/0 but need 12/12 to start full cycle.its genetics and sustained periods that will affect them.if a torch at a short interval of time will affect them then why dont mine and another grow i look at suffer.also why does it take a sustained period of atleast 2 weeks to reveg a plant under good strong light.i sometimes switch on the 1000wtr to check them when torch is flat but no longer then 15 mins and it does not effect my plants at all.this is said out of exp not what ive read.yep another myth floating about.before you doubt me have the guts and try it.i have for 4yrs.
