Phat filter vs Mountain Air carbon filters

Recommended Posts

Nope, that's an axial fan, which can't generate enough pressure for a carbon filter. Only very specific axial fans can generate enough for a carbon filter, and these would be sold with the filter. ;)

You might find a centrifugal fan a little louder than an axial, although the Hydro-Turbo's do put out a bit of sound. You can get silencing kits for centrifugal fans though, which are essentially two lengths of acoustic ducting, one meter or so for the inlet and outlet each, and a large piece of 350mm acoustic duct about 1/2 meter long which wraps around the fan. I know of at least one shop which has these kits for about 50 bucks, but you might find more professional ones (with flanges and other whosie-whatsit bits) for much more than that.

With good acoustic ducting you can silence a fan quite definitely down to a level far below that of your Hydro-Turbo, and you'll be wondering if the fan is on... :)

Good luck, I'd definitely suggest getting your fan where you get your filter from, as you'll definitely know that the thing works, and you'll be able to match your fan to your filter most effectively.
