flushing and PH ?

Recommended Posts

going to be stuck with tap water cant afford to buy anything else

If what pure says is correct and 0ppm water doesnt damage roots....

I was at big W the other day and got 10 litres of this supposedly ultra pure water for $5

It apparently goes through the strictest filtering proceedure imaginable and has absoluteley nothing other than pure h2o... I haven't tested the ppm of it but I will do tonight and let you know.. but yeah $5 for 10 litres not bad as thats all you would need, maybe 2 lots.... still pretty cheap if you want a perfect flush

Ok heres the lowdown

Its called "Nobles Ultra Pure Water"

I stuck my Hanna combo tester in it and it says ph 6.2 and 6ppm... most of that was probably residue left over on the tester cause i didn't clean it....

Sounds perfect right? ph 6.2? Thats like spot fucken on.... and 6ppm well you can't get much more pure than that.... shit i should be a sales rep for them :(

Lab grade distilled or double distilled DH2O should be 0ppm. RO/DI water usually has 1 or 2ppm salts in water, but u still got to add ph down acid to this water anyway.

DH20 does have a slight stripping effect of the roots and removes any dead or dying roots - but only slight, same as using 1/4 dose of oxyplus - you will allso find that your PH pen will have a little trouble locking on a measurement on DH20

Tap water is OK to use just let it sit in a bucket for 24 hours before using it as this will remove alot of the shit in the water.

Madoga - the leaves should be yellow but not dead - if the leaves wont change colour then do water changes 4 or 5 times in a row for the first day to remove 99.9% of the salts out of the media and roots area first, then change once a day after that.

pH adjustment also prevents the flush from affecting the media pH as well, as if you were to flush with high or low pH water, you'll need to run a lot more nutrient at the correct pH levels to bring it back into range.

The only thing removed from tap water after standing for 24 hours would be chlorine, which is monochloramine anyway, and this is helpful in keeping away nasties. Pythoff is the same stuff, and whilst in large doses it can harm roots, in the amounts we're talking about it's more benifit than harm. Still, some people prefer to do this.

I would also point out that there is much conjecture about whether flushing or curing is the process using up the nitrates and other nutrients within plant tissues. I personally think a weeks flush at the end of harvest is beneficial, much past that and you're affecting the maturing processes just when the most weight is added in the last few weeks of flowering.

Most of the EC readings you'll get from tapwater are sodium, chlorides and other ions, most of which aren't plant usable, although some are, like magnesium and sulphates. If your water supply is very, very high in ec like about 1.0-1.2 or so, then you may want to consider an alternative source. That said, my tapwater is .8 - 1.0, and I can grow well in it. The actual amounts of the various ions and other substances in your water will vary from from city to city, depends really on where the water comes from. Here in Perth it's a mixture of bore and dam water, and depending on where you live, it could be damn high in dissolved solids. I would advise anyone concerned about their water supplies to contact the water corporation in your local city, they should be able to provide detailed analysis of your water in your local area.

I have a copy of the Perth City Scheme Water analysis for all the various supplies, if anyone is interested I can post these up for all to see.

Hope that helps. Wow, only been on the boards again for thirty minutes and I'm already making long winded posts again.. hee hee...

I have always used tap water myself, in Vic, Tas and WA, and had no problems other than high PH in WA (9+), my theory is that if it doesn't harm the other indoor and outdoor plants that you use the water on then why should it harm the mj plants?

I think a few of us here would be interested in that. :D

me to.

well Ill be sticking to Tap water cant aford $20 to buy some cleaner water, did the first flush last night, I poured 1 bucket of PH adjusted water over each grow section using a jug, b4 I usually just let the watering system run and add fresh water to the tank which is probably not a great way to do it, EC went from 0.9 to 1.7, so Ill double up the flush tonight and dump the first run
