Synthetic THC for pain

THC derivative more potent than aspirin or ibuprofen

 

A synthetic derivative of THC has shown promising results for the treatment of chronic pain, arthritis and multiple sclerosis. The new compound is called "ajulemic acid," also known as CT-3.

 

A variety of animal tests have shown that ajulemic acid is more potent than aspirin and ibuprofen, without their problematic gastrointestinal side-effects. Ajulemic acid is also more potent for pain than THC, and does not have any psychoactive effects.

 

Sumner Burstein, a professor of molecular pharmacology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, told the American Chemical Society he believed that ajulemic

acid will eventually replace aspirin and similar drugs.
