Cannabis found in policeman's home, court hears

A Melbourne court has heard cannabis was found in the home of a police officer charged with drug offences and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Twenty-four-year-old Constable David Collins was arrested during a raid at his Frankston home in June last year.

Collins was later charged in relation to ecstasy trafficking and providing information about planned police raids to an alleged drug dealer.

The alleged dealer is also believed to be an associate of murdered police informer, Terence Hodson.

The Melbourne Magistrates' Court heard police recorded 67 instances of telephone contact between the woman and David Collins.

The court also heard police found five to 10 grams of cannabis in Collins' home during the raid, and that a woman in the house claimed it as her own.

Detective Sergeant Graham Sayce of the police major drug investigation division told the court he was concerned with the frequency of the contact and referred the matter to the ethical standards department.

The committal hearing is continuing.
