Recommended Posts

Police in northern New South Wales have charged two men after discovering 70 kilograms of cannabis in a four-wheel drive.

Sergeant Troy Grant says police stopped the car on the New England Highway, south of Tenterfield, for a speeding offence when the highway patrol officer noticed a strong smell.

He says one of the car's two occupants, a 27-year-old Irish tourist, tried to flee but was caught when he fell into a blackberry bush.

The other occupant of the car was a 35-year-old man from Tweed Heads.

The haul has an estimated street value of $750,000 and is believed to have been bound for Tweed Heads.

$750,000 cannabis haul

Tenterfield Police intercepted a vehicle on the New England Highway approximately five kilometres south of Tenterfield carrying 70kg of cannabis on Monday.

One man fled the area into nearby property before being quickly arrested by police soon after. Police said that they were amazed at the size of the haul being transported from the Torrington area to the Tweed Heads Region.

The cannabis haul has a recognised street value of $750,000.

A 35 year old Tweed Heads man and a 27 year old Irish national in Australia on a three month tourist Visa were arrested and charged with possessing and supplying a Commercial Quantity of Cannabis.

They were both bail-refused to appear at Armidale Local Court on Monday morning.

Investigations into the incident are continuing with assistance from detectives and specialist officers.

Alleged cannabis drivers refused bail in Armidale

TWO men will remain in custody until their next court date after appearing in Armidale Local Court yesterday charged with drug offences.

Vincent Craig, 35, of a Golden Beach address and Irish tourist Paul Pascoe, 27, were charged with possessing a commercial quantity of cannabis after Tenterfield police recovered 70kg of cannabis from a 4WD on the New England Highway on Sunday.

It is understood the Irish man, who is here on a three month visa, tried to flee the vehicle when questioned by a highway patrol officer, but was caught when he fell into a blackberry bush on a nearby property.

Police at the time of the arrest said they were amazed at the size of the haul, which they believed was on its way from the Torrington area and bound for the Tweed Heads area. The cannabis haul has an estimated street valued of $750,000.

The pair will reappear in Lismore Local Court on April 5. Bail was refused.

when I was done ages back it was cause my rego had been suspended THAT day and I had not gotten a warnig , later on whilst talkign to the cop she told me that I had just fallen on the worse possible luck , but she also admitted that around 60% of the busts that where in public are called in buy highway patroll because of stupid shit like speeding

I didn't know I didn't have rego and fourtunatly It all ended up with only a fine but I really can't understand these peopel who are just determined to get caught , I mean if you are dumb enough to drive one car with 154 lb's in it , you should follow every fuckign rule of the road, ensure all your lights are operational ect , and you sure as hell wouldn't speed .

This dudes driving fast has likely cost him the opertunity to drive anythign for a long time
