Sorry, can't answer your question right now, but I wanted to throw in an alternative to the subject to maybe encourage some discussion.

 

Instead of one 150W CF, how well would a close-knit array of a dozen or so 11-13W CFs go in regards to 'spread' of available light?

Or a single 130-200w compact fluoro, like the 130w spectrum lamps which you can get in 3 different spectral types, all putting out about 12,000 lumens.

 

150w lamps are uncommon, you may be best off looking in the yellow pages under "lighting" for a specialist. Perhaps some of the larger, online or mail order hydro shops may have them, but I would say you'll likely be searching for quite a while.

hey ... i live in melb and they dont sell 150watt cF at the hydro shops, they sell 135watt fluro's ( the tube kind )

Hygrow Technologies distributes them, any good hydro shop should either be able to find, or have them in stock. They're SPECTRUM 130w, although there are 150 and 200w units that have recently become available, not sure where you'd find those.

 

The tube ones are good too, they're likely high output T5 or similar. The advantage of the compact fluoro like units are that they can be used in any standard lamp shade. (Mini novas unfortunately are too short, but just about every other lamp shade on the market is suitable.

there fairly expensive considering the lighting they give out ... id consider spending the extra $50 odd dollars for the extra yield

About a 1/4 of the light of a 400w lamp for a little over a quarter of the energy. Sounds pretty good to me.

 

Totally cool running too, so the lamp can be held very close to foliage, making it very effective.

Luke as we know Lumens means nothing. thats what humans get out of the light.

Its Par rating is the one we are looking for.

 

Whats the Par rating of those high watt fluros??

They come in 2700, 6400 and 14000K ranges, and I can get you a full spectral analysis if you like. Just have to scan it today.

hmmm sound sliek some nice side or under cannopy lightting , I am not gonan mod anythign till I move but when I do I want to add more lights to the side of the room to get those less reached spots
