I used to grow duckweed, got the seeds from duckman (is that what he called himself?), who I think most assumed started it, but I think he just made it well known. He never implied to me he derived it himself. He told me a story of where he got it from, but I won't bother repeating it as i think most of these tales are prob part truth, and yet 110% entertainment. (mind you the guy makes the best hash).

 

The "ABC" if that's what it's called, I first saw in a "picture" (that cheap playboy type mag) magazine of all places in 1984. I know it was 1984 because I was reading the magazine at work at a particular station in the railways I was working at in 1984.

 

They were calling it skunk of all things, and I in fact believed it. They cited it as a dutch import of deadly consequences, they were using the article then to expound the concept of the world under attack by super weed from Holland. I don't think they themselves were lieing, simply replying on the cop realease.

 

Some guys were growing it on Brisbane's south side, down around Kingston (the article in the mag I'm thinking of). They were dobbed by the nieghbours not becuase it looked like dope, becuase it looked (at that stage of the gameat least) more like carnations. The people in the house that dobbed them just got interested in how much time these "no good" unemployed people put into the plants growing around the perimeter of their yard. they had hundreds if not more of them, but looked really innocent.

 

 

The beastards really did dob them simply based on they looked after the plants every day. The cops didn't want to bust them the article said, because they thought it was just a "pay back" dob, given they didn't think it was grass either. But they had the geear tested and acted on it.

 

Anyway, just thought I'd toss in that little bit of trivia.

PS. of all the stupid things- I threw away that article after holding onto it for years and years while I was cleaning up a pile of old books and loose papers I'd collected. I'd heard no further interest in the strain for many years, so assumed it was all over.

 

It did cause me to make my first contact with a dutch seed bank. apparently the one next door to the hash museum, where-ever that is

I'd believed it was skunk, and believed it was the world's strongest dope, (this was years before the internet), and set about randomly phoning dutch companies looking for a seed-bank, whch at the time seemed to me to be like a pot of gold story at the end of a rainbow. (I believed it, but only barely).

I finally got onto a seed bank after hours and hours (over a month or two) of calling around, and was propmtly told in an irritated tone that simply asking for "skunk" was stupid.

 

"skunk#1, skunk this, skunk that, ba bla bla..are all available, but we wont send to Australia, so have a freind pick it up for ya on their travels". Was all i got. I did have the small carnation myth being a skunk import told to me straight up as wrong during the conversation. In fact he kinda was qurious just why anyone would want dope that didn't look like dope .

Duckman? :peace: He goes by the alias Wallyduck, and that's his username on the icmag.com forums where he regularly posts (he has a subforum there); i'm not sure if he posts anywhere else tho. He's made a lot of Ducksfoot crosses as well as, more recently, a lot of Cinderella 99 crosses. Spoke to one guy on chat here who had met him in A'dam during one of the Cannabis Cups, said he was a good bloke. I've asked him a few questions about his C99 F5 and he was kind enough to reply to all my Q's, but I don't really know him beyond that. Maybe you should send him a privmsg for old times sake, see if you can get more beans off him *grin*
