Grwoing your own Tobacco

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Was interested in starting my own grow of Tobacco. Could someone please give me a rough idea how to go about it, won't be starting yet, not until i fully understand it.

I came across these

Nicotiana rustica

(Mapacho)

Nicotiana tabacum

(Light Virginian Tobacco)

What's the difference? Both are $5 for 100+ seeds so cheap to start off so far, :).

Any help/advice is needed.

Thanks,

Kel.

Well, Im pretty certain its totally illegal to grow for whatever reason unless you have a licence. Which I think Is an absolute load of bullshit. Here's a proposition for you guys...... Lets just say that the sale of tobacco is suddenly made highly illegal and if you want to smoke tobacco you have to grow it yourself. How many high school kids would be taking it up then. Not as much as the current system of government sanctioned drug abuse of the most addictive substance known to man. Or at least thats my opinion. If you want to make really smooth tobacco You have to really know your shit, in my opinion. I reckon its only good for blunts and chew in most instances. Oh yeah, be FUCKING careful to wear gloves when picking, particularly if you are a low nicotene user I suppose. I made the mistake of covering my arms in resin while also smoking ( stupidly believe it or not) a expensive cuban that my friend had bought ( to get in the spirit), To say extremely ill is an understatement and I woke up in my friends car with him unconsious and his missus driving us to the hospital. I am now an ex smoker thanks to hypnosis which worked outstandingly and has been the best 300 bucks I've ever spent. It was 300 regardless of how many times I had to go back and was in tuggeranong in canberra. It took about five half hour sessions and Im now a month and a half cold turkey. No pills, No patches nothing.... and I feel healthyer than ever before.

P.S It didn't seem to affect mary jane use as I didn't want it to and told the hypnotherapist this.

You'll find that most plants that do something are illegal either to posess or process. The rest it won't be long :D

N.rustica is a traditional indian tobacco with reported psychedelic effects,Virginian is the most common commercial type and being mild it is used to cut blends of darker tobacco to make them milder.

I have grown both these types before but the key as mentioned is in the curing process.(The coffinnails site covers this I think)

An alternative to smoking would be to dry the leaves and pulverise with some aromatic herbs to make a snuff.

If you're thinking of growing tobacco they are easy to grow, very hungry and will use nutes readily and they will deplete the soil very quickly like most solanums..eg. potatoes and tomatoes so be prepared to fertilise heaps!

Also you should be careful growing them near tomatoes as they can cross pollinate (Homer's tomacco plants :D ) and add nicotine to your food crop!

The cutest ones I've grown were venezualan which are short plants(unlike virginian which I've seen at 8 feet tall!)and have belladonna type flowers.Apparently they were collected by an ethnobotanist from the rainforests of venezuala.

Just be aware of the laws even though they suck ;)
