G'dall - found this interesting writeup on how to do a commerical outdoor grow:---

from www.wetdreams.ws

These are the skills learnt from putting in bush crops from 1976 through to 2001.

the following is horticulturally for the south west of western australia, but the techniques can be used anywhere.

the weather pattern for the sthwst of australia,

march, sees the end of the cyclone season but still with 40c days, dry air and little to no rain.

april, the end of summer with the cool mornings just beginning, less than 1 inch of rain.

may, cool mornings, cool early easterly winds off the desert, up to 3 inches of rain by mays end.

June, rain settles in,cold mornings with frosts, start of the winter storms coming up from antartica,4 to 5 inches of rain, sunny days to 30c.

july, weekly cold front storms dropping 4 inches of rain each time, with 60 mile an hour winds and 5 metre swells, icy mornings dropping to -3c, majority of sunny days to a max of 30c.

august, same as july.

september, early sept is same as aug but it drifts into warmer days with fewer storms and no icy frosts, 6 to 8 inches rain.

october, sees the last of the storms with days sunny, warm and over 30c, 4 to 6 inches of rain.

november, days turning to summer, most over 30c,very dry air and 2 to 3 inches of rain.

december through feburary, fucking hot, humid, cyclones, very little to no rain, days between 30c and 45c.

this is one of the only areas where winter crops are viable, the crops must be within ten miles of the coast, they must be on hilltops or ridge lines,, or the frosts kill them.

the season starts early feburary with the digging and fencing of the crop areas over two days per week,,these are small areas of around 4metres wide by 5 metres long.

an average day begins with a 2.30am wake up,

the vehicle is packed the night before with 2 x 20 metre length of fencing, 8 star pickets, 8 x 40kilo bags of chicken shit,

2 x 2 kilo bags of NPK blue, 2 x 1kilo bags of trace elements, ant dust,2 x long handled shovels,1 axe, pliers, coil of tie wire, 2 x large backpacks, 2 x water bottles, compass.

partner arrives at 245am and we begin the trip north, arriving at selected bush area at approx 425am being first walking light, this means where there is just enough dawn light to see 50 metres into the bush.

stop vehicle on leafed over area of track under tree to cover any footy mistakes, partner exits and stands in bush ,driver exits and without leaving footprints moves to rear of vehicle and begin to unpack vehicle throwing everything to partner.

packs are thrown first, then bags of chook shit which partner begins to load straight into the packs as he catches them, as he catches all items they are loaded straight into packs so no double handling.

vehicle is then moved 200metres down the track, partner brushes over any footys on track.

driver arrives back and has pack lifted onto his back, driver lifts pack onto partners back, shovels picked up,compass bearing taken,

walk in 400 to 500 metres to a visible easy to find landmark, then walk off that by 50metres to a heavily overgrown area, chuck 190 pound packs off back and collapse with exhaustion.

clear suitable area of all plant life, including roots, turn area over to depth of 1 foot, spread out chicken shit, NPK blue and trace elements.

whilst partner digs the goodies into the soil to a depth of 9 inches,, you build fence, drive your star pickets in,run the fencing around them and connect fence wire back onto itself.

then at every metre of fencing, you attach 6ft of 1mm dia tiewire, to the top wire of the fence, the other end you attach to a branch of a tree or high shrub, which helps keep the fence erect and at 4ft high as such it slows down those fuckin bounding grass chomping cocksucking kangaroo bastards, doesnt stop them though, but i cover that later, after goodies dug in partner spreads ant dust.

a point to ponder,

from the time you left your driveway at 245am, your dicks back on that block again and the axe is out there but as yet unseen.

you and a mate are in a 4 wheel drive heading north at sparrow farts, said vehicle full of enough gear to make two complete pits,,,one day some cunting constable on night patrol is going to want to have a look at you, cops arent silly, they will work out what your up too.

if your good enough you can talk rings around these cunts and in the plain light of a jury, your not doing a crime.

they will let you go if you have the right bullshit.

but my friend, you just been pegged, bad news, real bad news, expect them to have a look at you, bank on it,so avoid it,,thats why you leave early, hitting the ground running at first first light, if you move your done by 830am and heading home.

but move you must, keep the time your dicks on the block down to the absolute minmum, have a bullshit story worked out between each other for when the worst case scenario happens.

cause it happens,,all bush is watched for growing grass,,all bush,,in all western countries,,we can and will and do beat them year after year, and the way you beat them is to not be lazy.

from the time you park that car at first light, to getting in it when the two pits are dug, your going flatout, your almost panting your working so hard and fast, the walk in and out is at a bloody fast walking speed, very fast.

the posistion the vehicle was left in, was your most furtherest eastern point travelling to, today.

so you get back to the car and begin heading west to go home, the suns at your back now, as you head home anyone coming up your tracks, using the same vehicle bushtrack in as you did, you can often see them from 1 kilometre away, but there driving into a early morning sun and its right there in there windscreen, they cant see 20 feet in front of them its that bad.

this gives plenty of time for decisions of cut and run or wave as you drive past.

but always work early and work quick, always drive to your most eastern spot when you first arrive and then all other driving is with the sun at your back, must do.

you do 45 crops sites between early feb and early april, in early march you begin working a 3rd day a week to get the plants started.

you choose a location central to all your crop sites, and build a 7metre long by 3 metre wide site, fully fenced with the goodies turned over in the soil, then lay and large long tarpaulin in it,,effectively making a 6inch deep bath the size of the site.

now fill 2300 pots (pots are 110mm high,100mmsquare)with seedling mix, touch of trace elements and osmocote slow release fertilizer pellets and place them into the baby site.

pour in 200 litres of water and let it soak into the pots, plant 5 seeds per pot, leave pots one inch deep in water.

seeds must be planted by early march, 5th to 10th,,any earlier and they go to head to early,,any later and they dont go to head early enough, its much easier to water 2300 plants all in one spot as baby's, than to water them in 45 spots as mature females.

you spend a day a week watering the baby site, if any more than 2 plants sprout per pot then pull them out, the pots that none of the 5 seeds sprouted then transfer plants from crowded pots.

by mays end, all the sites are dug and nicely aged, the babies are now 1 foot to 18 inches high and booming, the winter rains have settled in,the first big winter storm has gone through, the ground is saturated, time to plant the babies in the growing sites.

steal from behind supermarkets, bread trays, the 1 metre by 1 metre ones, plastic, now tie a light twine from one corner to the other corner on the same side, leaving enough slack twine that it fits around your neck and allows you to hold the trays with arms fully outstretched, like the old hotdog vendors with the tray in front they carried around with leather strap around there neck.

steal about 20 of them, attaching the twine to all of them, carry into baby site and load 50 pots per tray, carry trays back to vehicle.

drive around the 20 sites your going to plant, and drop off one tray per site until you get to the last tray and then you park and carry the tray in and plant its pots into the 20th site, now one at a time go back and plant out the other 19 trays.

you dont want to be caught with 19 trays of grass plants in the range rover, all driving and packing is done at 2 and 3 am so your at the 20th site by first light.

by june 1st all the plants are dug into there sites and bedded down, all sites fertilized with slow release and general nutrients, fully ant dusted again and roo proofed.

one night is spent shooting 23 kangaroos, there dragged to the vehicle and chopped in half with an axe, and then loaded onto a tarpaulin in the back of the range rover.

half a roo is taken to each site and is wired 3 foot off the ground into a tree, no roo will now come within 50 metres of the site.

middle of july you go back to all sites, pulling all weeds and hoeing, fertilizing, removing any males, removing 2nd plant in pot if female shows, heavy ant dusting.

middle of august go back to sites,, pull all weeds and hoe, fertilize, male and 2nd plant, ant dust and coddling moth spray(crushed garlic and chilli in water).

end of august, fertilize male and 2nd plant, ant dust and moth spray, all spots should be down to one female now,,,being 50 females per site.

early, middle and end of september, fertilize,

ant dust and moth spray.

october, first heads ready to pull, snipped off main plants then taken to new central location,,tied to 20 metre long wire lines from one tree to another,,and heads allowed to dry.

return 4 days later at dusk,, take down dried heads, snip buds to grade and bag into pounds, finishing about 1am, then meeting buyer on country road between drying location and home, deals done,go home.

all of october, november and most of december is spent ,two days a week snipping plants and heads from the 45 sites, one afternoon/evening per week snipping buds to grade and doing the deal.

the pull lasts for 10 to 12 weeks, you average about 4 ounces per plant, about 45 to 50 pounds per week is dealt with,, its the 3 months when the money just pours in but multiple nervous breakdowns experienced.

your normally finished by xmas and rest till early feb.

then start again.
