Corby drug trial adjourned

Recommended Posts

THE trial of an Australian woman accused of trying to smuggle a huge amount of cannabis into Bali has been adjourned for one week to let her defence team to assess the prosecution's indictment.

Earlier today Schapelle Corby, 27, a Gold Coast beauty therapy student, said she was delighted for the chance to defend herself against charges for which she faces the death penalty.

She arrived at Denpasar court in an armoured police bus and handcuffed to another female prisoner.

Ms Corby is accused of attempting to smuggle 4.1kg of cannabis into Bali last October in an unlocked body board bag.

Asked how she felt on her way into the trial, Ms Corby – dressed in a light blue shirt and black skirt – said she was happy to put her defence on the record.

"I'm so relieved," she said.

She also denied accusations contained in the prosecution indictment against her that she had admitted to owning the drugs to customs officers at Denpasar airport and obstructed them when they attempted to open the body bag.

"I say the translation was wrong," she said.

"I opened it myself. He didn't even ask me."

well atleast things are looking slightly better for her...none the less our government says we aint helping a drug smuggler and bali wants any drug smugglers killed :devilred: IMO she has fuck all chance of getting back to australia alive :thumbdown

i just wish that the PM would stand up and say are u fucking insane to the bali PM or what ever they have and demand the return of her to australia to face a fair and just trial...atleast in australia she would be believed instead of just being told we found the drugs on you, therefore your guilty lol

Look it sucks that she has been caught, and it does seem like a suss bust, but then there are a lot of stupid smugglers out there as well.

I don't think anyone should be insisting that she is repatriated to Aus to face these charges.

This is the type of thing you must consider when travelling overseas, that you may be caught up in the legal system of another country that is more corrupt and vague, with harsher penalties than here in Aus. This is one of the dangers of travelling.

If she is convicted the Aus gov can ask for her to spend her time in jail here (if she gets a jail sentence) and they will most likely intervene if she gets the death penalty. But there is no way they can intervene now.

How would you feel if someone from another country escaped our justice system? I know I feel pissed off when the US attempts to get their people repatriated back to America when they are facing trial here.

Go ask the Japanese how they felt about the US attempting to have one of their servicemen sent home after being charged with rape and murder a couple of years ago?

it said on the tv tonight that she will at worst get death by firing squad, and at best life in a bali prison.

Whats worst?

I think it sucks that it happened, I also think it sucks even more that our govt wont fight for its own citizens.

Politicians have alot to answer for.

Thats one place I wont be going. :devilred: lol

Everyone who saw what the balinese were saying when this first happened know it's a setup, customs professionals destroyed evidence or any chance of getting it, baggage handlers found it (so was Schappalle helping them unload the plane?), no one, no matter how much of a "stupid smuggler" they are, smuggles premium priced goods into a country where they are worthless because the whole country is lousy with them. There are plenty of facts to disprove what those crooked little bastards say.

Did anyone notice all those quotes came with a comma, purposely put at the end of a quoted sentence? When i was learning about writing, quotation marks provided punctuation. If you quote someone like this, [she said, "The sky is blue".], what she said was a sentence but the quotation marks end her the sentence and the full stop is outside the quotaion marks the finish the sentence describing what 'she' said. So when you look at a phrase that has been punctuated with a comma within the quotaion marks it means you are only seeing a part of what was said and has probably been taken out of context.

The catch is the explanation seems pedantic and looks like nitpicking and unless the rest of what was said was made note of (highly unlikely in this situation) all you are left with is a damaging quote. If i said, "I'll kill him if he touches my bickies again". When he happens to turn up dead through no fault of mine and i was quoted as saying, "I'll kill him," did i not say it? Looks damaging doesn't it, i said it even if i didn't do it?

It's a farce that they record only what they need to accuse.

Brainstorm, don't stick up for them, they are crooked and corrupt and are going to kill an obviously innocent girl and if a death sentence is paseed down our government wont be able to save her. Yes it sucks when the US pulls their citizens out of reasonable countries to stand trial at home, but the US also has the balls to pull their citizens out of corrupt countries who use childish kidnapping tactics to get at them. I wish our government had the balls to do the same.

Hmm, I have more trouble trying to understand why Bali officials would want to bother setting this poor girl up even considering the corrupt nature of Indonesian officialdom than believing she may just be a silly silly silly girl. I could be wrong, but the whole thing's pretty sus..... :scratchin

It's simple, Iraqi's hate Americans, Indonesians hate us.

In case you missed the news, there are terrorists on this side of the globe as well. There was a bombing in Bali a while back, about a year after 911 in fact so you might have missed it, the target of which was Australian, American and British tourists in Bali.
