NSW posts teen anti-drug message

Recommended Posts

The NSW government's anti-cannabis message will be targeted at teenagers through an advertising campaign in shopping centres and cinemas.

Special Minister of State John Della Bosca has launched an extension of the cannabis information campaign, which is part of the government's $230 million drug program.

It involves a series of posters at cinema and in shopping centre bathrooms during the January school holiday.

A digitally animated slide also will screen in regional cinemas as part of pre-movie entertainment.

"Cinemas and shopping centres draw thousands of young people during the summer school holidays," Mr Della Bosca said.

"Rerunning the campaign during this period provides a great opportunity to reach as many young people as possible."

Mr Della Bosca said the campaign aimed to reinforce the message that cannabis was not a soft or recreational drug, or one without risks.

The anti-drugs campaign also has included the rollout of four cannabis treatment clinics across NSW and cannabis resource kits in high schools across the state.

$230 million dollars! That could be used for something actually needing that, like cancer research or something

How about this...

Use the money on CANCER RELIEF - CANNABIS!!!

People with terminal illness can live the 'high life' too - just in a different frame of mind.

So you guys don't believe that it is worth spending money in an attempt to stop children from using drugs?

We know ourselves that cannabis is relatively harmless to us, however all drugs are harmful to growing bodies and developing brains.

We also believe that cannabis isn't a gateway drug, and in and of itself it most likely isn't, however it may be considered a gateway drug in the following scenario - young kid goes to his dealer to get mj, dealer tells kid "hey I don't have any but try this crack cocaine instead, just as good and only a little more money!!

Did you notice that this advertising campaign is a part of an entire drugs program that costs $230mil and didn't cost that amount in and of itself?

Then why do we prescribe far harsher drugs to children?

And no, not all drugs are harmful to growing bodies and developing brains, we haven't got any research on such things to prove it. Some drugs, certainly. But in my opinion far more damage is being done to those under 18 by maintaining the bullshit that is prohibition, thus allowing them easy access to such things. If it were regulated in some way, I believe that we'd be a more responsible society, and there'd be a heck of a lot less damage caused to youth from drug use, and abuse.

::P: That's hilarious. How did said situation arise? Because it's illegal.

Besides, I don't know anyone who sells pot and cocaine, although I'm sure there would be some. But that's not the point. What your describing isn't an effect anything vaugely related to "gateway" drugs. It's an effect of prohibition. The kid wouldn't be at a dealers in the first place, would they?

And 240 million spent directly on trying to hold up the false premise that governments have responsibility for protecting people from themselves is money better spent elsewhere.

And don't forget that under a legalised recreational drugs system, we'd also be paying taxes on said items, which could go into REAL research into the effects of such substances, and attempting to minimise harm to the individuals concerned.

Just my opinion though.

My personal beliefs are that NO person under 18 years old should use any drug or smoke anything. they also shouldnt have access to alcohol.

but they still do.

Educating the kids is ok providing it is factual information and not scare tactics.

I believe that the govt shouldnt waste money trying to stomp out soemthing that they have no control of.

If they want to take this role then it needs to be legalised.

As far as a dealer selling crack or whatever to anyone under 18, well the cunt deserves to be busted.

Drug education IMO is up the the parent not up to a school or government dept. We are the kids parents and we know whats best for them.

we dont need to spend millions of dollars to do something that parents should be doping themselves.

MJ has never been a gateway drug, its just that its more available.

Its like saying alcohol is a gateway drug to family abuse.

its not the drug its the individual.

EG- my dad taught me how to grow cannabis long before I smoked it, he educated and left it up to me to decide weather or not to use it.
