Personally i don't think smoking cannabis makes one a better driver, if it did VicRoads would be selling it. As for the testing issue, the fact that the saliva test will show positive long after one has been under the influence of cannabis gets me rather peeved... not to mention paranoid.

 

I would really love to hear some cold hard facts on the amount of time it takes before your saliva is free of any evidence - Ive heard a few assumptions, but its impossible to tell who is right... of course the police enforcing this rubbish don't really make this info public

Actually, don't be surprised if he does.... I seem to recall seeing something bout that... still, I don't like the idea of anyone, under the influence of Anything, being behind the wheel. But that's just me.

I used to think I was a good driver when I was stoned. Not that I did it very often. but when I did I felt paranoid about everyone else out on the road and every set of headlights behind me was a cop car .

 

It does make you more aware of the surrounding and also it does make you see things that you normally wouldnt.

if there was accidents a stoned driver would be the first to see it.

 

Now the reason why I wont drive stoned or anything is the reaction times, If something does happen its like oh im going to hit that car, boy I hope not *SMASH*.

I have seen it time and time again, as I work for a towing company.

I have personally had to pick body parts up off the road after some stoned fuck took themselves out. and that shit Isnt pleasant.

 

im all for and behind the drug testing provided it only catches people that are HIGH not people that have smoked the shit the night before etc.

Hey I didn't say it wouldn't impair your judgement , or that it was a good thing (I'm with Luke on this, I'd rather drivers not be on anything - even sugar and caffeine), but the evidence mostly supports cannabis drivers being safer on the roads than sober people. There are a few studies that show the reverse, but a significant number that don't. However, I'm sure that as more specific studies are done we'll become better at detecting the difference, and I'm sure that it will be negative overall.

which summarise a few of the studies. Some of the more recent ones have included an Australian study of cannabinoid levels in corpses and correlated them with car accidents. Interestingly, a report came out after this suggesting that drug testing of corpses is incredibly unreliable. Similarly, the corpses were tested regardless of whether they were the cause of the accident or not. There's a handful of studies either way in the last few years. Some of them show a very minor negative impact on driving ability, others show that stoned drivers are safer than sober drivers.

when i have driven stoned it impared my ability and thats for sure :thumbdown

 

turned me into a granny driver who was way more alert and made me more of a defensive driver than the phyco behind the wheel that i normall was ::

 

was really trippy though, felt like i was going 100 miles an hour going out of the driveway alone :: then driving OMG was like i was flying but had total controll , felt like i was zooming past every1 and everything...i checked the speedo and i was doing 15km/h BAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

 

for the record i dont think any1 under the influence of ANY drug wether its legal, perscription or illegal should drive even a go kart....even mowing the lawn can result in alot of damage if ur totalled and have no idea what your doing....+mowing the lawn is bad enough, u dont want to waste drugs on it :smoke
