Raid nets $2.5m cannabis

December 17, 2004

A RAID on a Sydney home uncovered cannabis plants worth more than $2.5 million.

Police today said officers involved in a covert operation on the property at Rock Street, Yagoona, raided the house about 6pm (AEDT) yesterday.

The officers found the house had been converted into a number of cannabis growing rooms with sophisticated lighting, electrical and ventilation equipment.

They located more than 500 canabis plants and a large amount of processed leaf and stems.

One man was arrested allegedly running from the premises and a second was found hiding amongst the plants.

A 36-year-old man and a 23-year-old man were both charged with cultivating a commercial quantity of prohibited plant and refused bail.

They will appear at Burwood Local Court later today.

Would be bit hard to explain why they were hiding in the grow room :D

Yeah true tom , but a place out of town chewing that much juice causes more suspision than anythign else,

I would think hypotheticly speakign if somone wanted to go about it rght they could actually get away with an indoor comercial grow with less risk in the subrubs rather than an isolated area that police imediately suspect provided they where cautios and took all the aproprate steps no-one should be able to tell there was anythign goign on at all , there are more businesses who chew juice , and peopel with higher bills so it's not quite as niticed pluss it is always harder to spot a needle in a haystack than it is to notice or hear rumors about the person in a small town who is solitary and confined

Reallly I think your silly to do a grow like that in eighter a rural or suburb area but someone has to feed to comercial market so there will always be peopel doing it UNTILL a time it becomes legal :D

The courts estimate that each plant produces $4000 worth of street value MJ when fully grown, now the amount of power to run the lights and the size of the house needed to grow 500 fully grown plants would be enormous not to mention the smell and there's not many dudes in Yagoona that doesnt know the smell of marijuana.....It was a bust just waiting to happen to the dumb arab barstards. :D

the key is is to just appear normal. also watch out for retireees, housewives who don't work, neighbours that don't like you or anyone with nothin better to do than pay attention to what you're doing. anything out of the ordinary and bored people will start paying attention to you.

In my old place I got a visit from the cops simply because all my windows were covered up and I wasn't around for a couple of weeks. They said I had been reported for suspisicous behaviour. To cut a long story short they didn't have a warrant and tried to bluff their way in and I politely told them there was no way I'm letting anyone into my house without good reason. He said he'd be back with a warrant but I never heard from him again.

So yeah, nosey neighbours with not enough to do in their lives are a fucken worry. I have a hard time believing power bills are a concern, heaps of houses these days run bloody big airconditioning systems which chew up a shitload more power than most grows. I know someone who's electricity bill ranges from $1500-$2000 per quarter, and the only questionable activity going on in that house is perhaps some creative tax minimisation.

I would agree with that in the suburbs pipeman which was why I mentioned that I thought it was a little less suspisious in that type of area , however a place in the middle of no-where with a power bill doule or tripple that of the rest of the locals is a little wierd in my mind , I know if I was a cop it would raise a red flag or two
