orb
iv'e been using a 3500k 54w cob for a seedling and seems to be over kill for the amount of light it emits for 1 seedling, is this Philips 24w cfl ok to use for the first 10 days from sprout. https://www.bunnings.com.au/philips-24w-cool-day-edison-screw-cfl-t2-spiral-tornado-globe_p4320504
Serrated edge
Occasionally Ive used 600 w for seedlings ,,,,no overkill going on at all.Actually faster growth. Lower the wattage and expect slower growth.
The Stoned Jester
Lower the wattage and expect slower growth. Not necessarily SE, I think it honestly depends on the size of your grow area and the light you have, In my little 40cm x 40xcm cupboard, I had 4x 24w (96w) total of Phillips CFL running and the plants loved it. The amount of light was perfect for that area and plenty enough for 1-2 plants, look back at some of my old diaries and you'll see some of them went pretty quick. orb
comments from elsewhere claim around 24w cfl is enough, only one way to find out plus i can compare 10 day pics from previous grows.
The Stoned Jester
People have grown weed using a 60w incandescent light globe in the past, sure it's turned out pretty shitty but it can still be done And yeah I think 24w is enough for a seedling for first 10 days easy. The thread said for seedling light..didnt mention size of space.,,so if it's a small space of course you'd use lower wattage lights. HPS works on seedlings from day one of popping up .of course the light is higher than normal at first so they don't fry,,, but they harden up quick .And believe it or not ,,,,,,,they will grow to a bigger - non spindly plant faster than than left under low watt lights,,,just costs more in power . Low watts still works for seedlings too ,, Edited July 22, 2020 by Serrated edge

Frank Reynolds
For my last round of seedlings I had 2 x 18w cfl tubes from bunnings. Worked fine, also done some under 600w. IMO heat and enviorment more imprtant at that stage.
orb
fuk just realised the cost saving off 30w over 180hrs is like 2 bucks..i'll stick with 54w
