How the f..k do I get rid of gnats think I over watered this morning an when I checked them again tonight they are everywhere

Hye mate, best thing would be to step back watering a bit in the future. 

 

For now, you can use diatemecous earth on top. If you want to root drench I would recommend getting a product with bacillus thurigensis subsp israeliensis, doesn't come cheap though unfortunately can be found at hydro shops under different brands but very effective. Letting the medium dry out at the top if possible will kill them off as well, not necessarily possible tho

Was just told I could use pyrethrum sprays as they have only just sprouted

pyrethrum is a contact pesticide, it iwll knock down adults, won't affect the larvae in the medium which are the big issue afaik
