Drugs, cash, properties seized - WA

WA cops believe they have smashed a key Perth drug network after seizing large quantities of ecstasy, amphetamines and cash in a raid that led to the arrest of a 44-year-old man.

More than a kilogram of dexamphetamines, 2700 ecstasy tablets, 800g of cannabis and $201,500 in cash was discovered yesterday when detectives executed a search warrant at a Maddington property, in Perth's south-east, Inspector Trevor Davis said today.

A man arrested at the property was charged with three counts of possession of drugs with intent to sell or supply and two counts of stealing and receiving.

He is due to appear in the Perth Court of Petty Sessions on Friday.

The raid involved 20 police officers, including members of the Gang Response Unit because the arrested man had alleged links to an outlaw motorcycle club, Insp Davis said.

Police also seized two stolen vehicles during the raid and eight properties owned by the arrested man – worth an estimated $1.5 million – were issued with freeze notices by the Asset Investigation Unit, Insp Davis said.

"We believe the seizure of the drugs and this man's arrest will have a significant impact on drug availability in the south-east metropolitan area," he said.

"The quantity of drugs and cash seized would make him, in our view, a major dealer in our corridor."

Yesterday's raid was the result of a four month-long investigation by Cannington Tactical Investigation officers – known as Operation Omega – targeting drugs.
