Leaf eaten

Recommended Posts

Hey folks, been a while since I’ve checked in.. sensational weather here In Sydney this last week! Got some plants out in the sun and noticed yesterday and today their leaves are getting little spots on them and they seem to be getting eated.

Nothing too flash going on here, soil is a mix of compost and potting mix and a bit of dirt outa my garden beds. Plants seen to be fairly happy. I noticed this after I did some trimming up of lower branches and some snapping of stems.

What can I do to help these guys out.

Thanks post-62415-156983743392_thumb.jpgpost-62415-156983745907_thumb.jpgpost-62415-156983748327_thumb.jpgpost-62415-156983750936_thumb.jpg

the pic's to me say your over watering , frequent watering's can cause the soil

to lack oxygen , roots can't breath , forcing the the environment to go anaerobic

in general , a healthy adult plant outdoor under the sun should mostly

have it's leaf fingers pointing to the sky

did you mix any aeration into the compost you added to the potting mix

what size is that pot & how long has the plant been in it

Hey itchy, as for aeration no I didn’t mate, the leaves for the most part do point towards the sky, the smaller ones have been sad looking for 2 days. The pot is 300mm, I transplanted from seed raising mix late August I’m guessing. I really need to start paying more attention to things grow related haha.. honestly I didn’t think I would get this far. I’ve tried a few times growing and things just go wrong outside of my control., life things get in the way lol.

I have a pic from the 14th I’ll add.

I’m watering every 3 days or there about, the smaller pot would give more regular. I’ve also gave seasol once a week.

Cheers mate

here's a pic of a plant from last season , it's what i mean when i say point to the sky

post-50689-0-20198100-1569842084_thumb.jpg

sorry for the sideways pic

the moment a grower says i water every 2 or 3 or 5 days we've got a problem

there are to many variables to be able to predict water every 3 days , as the plants root system fills out the pot

you'll get to a point where more frequent watering's are required

along with root system , sun/temp , wind , mulch , all alter when a pot needs replenishing

you need to find trigger points for you to water , like the weight of the pot , next time you fill a pot with some potting

mix b4 you water that pot in , pick it up , feel how heavy the pot is , that is the weight of an empty pot , you don't really

want it to get that light / dry b4 watering , now add the water to the pot let it drain out , pick up the pot again , that's the weight

of a full pot , you don't want to be adding water if the pot feels that heavy

so your looking to feel about half the weight of a full pot to add more water , as a rule of thumb

you can also push your finger down into the soil to feel how wet the soil is , use as a second trigger point , if the pot is lighter & pushing

your finger in the soil feels dryness , good chance she needs a water & v a v , heavy pot , soil feels wet = no water required

not sure if you plan to transplant the 300mm pot or if that's it's home for the whole summer , outdoor plants round here start flowering

around jan / feb, so that's sept to jan/feb just for veg 5/6 months in 300mm pot of soil

a transplant into bigger pots will help them pick up there leaves , as long as you don't continue to over water

Sweet mate if that’s all it is, Was doing finger tests and checking the weights must of been off the mark abit. I’ll ease up on the drink. Only been a couple days like this. That’s easy. At this stage I’m thinking I drag them inside after another month or so and stick them under a light to flower them. Ive another set of seedlings just emerging to possibly leave outside. I’ll see how I go, thanks for the help mate
