are 10L pots big enough?

Recommended Posts

I've potted my plants into 10L buckets with drainage holes drilled into the bottom. Will these be big enough to see them through to harvest. I wanted to use these because they've got handles - easier to transport and they're less that 1/4 of the cost of pots (I'm on a budget and my outdoor grow is proving to be more expensive than expected.

I'm growing into a 50/50 mix mushy compost and premium potting mix with water crystals and a bit of blood n bone.

Thanks.

outdoors is very diffrent to indoors, if a plant is outdoors the root system tends to look for nutes while in hydro its there for them to feed on ... so I think it depends if you feeding it right, and also iv heard some ppl on here saying that seed grows need 20 + litre buckets ( for hydro ?) either way your gonna know when to repot.

The plant will slow down on growth.

~ peace out

ok , if you can grow in the ground you should do it , but if u got shit soil pots are the go , termites usually hang around shit soil areas and will be attracted too your moist soil mix , the mushy compst has wood shavings in it wich will attract temites from ages away , the advantage of having too use pots in dry shit areas is that because the soil is crap surrounding vegetation is usually sparse and sunny, use bigger pots then the plant will need if u want a 5 footer 50litres , 6-8 footer 75 litres , remember what soil you dont carry in now you will carry it in water 10 fold , for a stressed plant , using big bags saves time and gives better results , mabey use water crystals , mulch the top of the pots and if your real keen shade the black platic pots with some old potato sacks too stop hot bags from burning roots and sucking out precious moisture, oh yeah most important part lay down some black plastic , make sure theres no sharp objects that will peirce plastic on the ground , double layer if u have too, sit pots on it and fold edges up too catch water that way all your hard work carrying water doesnt run down the hill or too surrounding vegetation . good luck

Just a little info for all of those that have had termite problems in the past. When you dig your hole, before filling it with your organics etc, get a full watering can of water, and drop in 10ml per L of chlorpyrifos500. Soak the edges, surrounds, and of course the hole, then fill it with whatever you would normally chuck in, to plant into. No more termites.
