Wet or dry trim

Recommended Posts

I used to just pluck the big shade/sun leaves then chop and hang.
I'd leave all the smaller sugary leaf on the buds.
When dried, I'd jar and cure.

I'm too energy efficient to trim pretty manicured shit. If there were bits of leaf I don't want to smoke on my buds, I'd just take them off when I chopped.

Here's some of my processes

Personally I chop from the plant, then hang. Like this:

https://cannabis.community.forums.ozstoners.com/topic/12055-all-join-in-just-a-pic-dump/?view=findpost&p=406564

When the stems snap cleanly, placed in corrugated cardboard boxes. The corrugated cardboard draws more moisture out.

https://cannabis.community.forums.ozstoners.com/uploads/monthly_11_2012/post-24238-0-28362000-1353724695.jpg

Then all of the timber is removed and thrown in my bucket like this

https://cannabis.community.forums.ozstoners.com/uploads/monthly_11_2012/post-24238-0-72755400-1353725022.jpg

Then manicured and placed in sealed glass jars and burped every few days Like this

https://cannabis.community.forums.ozstoners.com/uploads/monthly_11_2012/post-24238-0-58679200-1353724768.jpg

Then once that whole process is done the buds get put into tins

Either biscuit tins

https://cannabis.community.forums.ozstoners.com/topic/12055-all-join-in-just-a-pic-dump/?view=findpost&p=268059

Or coffee tins

https://cannabis.community.forums.ozstoners.com/gallery/image/17473-bit-of-the-collection/

The trim all gets used to make my hash

https://cannabis.community.forums.ozstoners.com/topic/27354-hashin-it-up/ Hashin it up

Or my oil

https://cannabis.community.forums.ozstoners.com/topic/7166-iso-oil/?do=findComment&comment=397571

Or my tincture (although this lot was made from bud)

https://cannabis.community.forums.ozstoners.com/topic/45016-op-rum-tincture/?hl=tincture&do=findComment&comment=476910

So that's pretty much what I do

Some may say it's a bit labour intensive but as another member has said before 'Proper preparation prevents piss poor performance' do it right from the start and you can't go wrong

hey Merl

ever considered the use of a Wood Moisture Meter to check moisture content of buds

https://youtu.be/OcdlDPUxVGA

i have been considering buying one & having a play with jarring & diff moisture content

& how that relates to consuming & shelf life

https://www.ebay.com.au/p/LCD-0-99-9-2Pins-Wood-Industry-Digital-Moisture-Meter-Humidity-Tester-Timber/7005701675?iid=273902271780&_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20170810094027%26meid%3D62c35f640ac44e7c8a4fe62327a6a864%26pid%3D100855%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26%26itm%3D273902271780&_trksid=p2349526.c100855.m4779

with this ones there accuracy is +/- 0.5%

& these ones are cheap enough to buy

never used one but i am toying with the idea

seems like rosin guys find bud moisture info handy

not a rosin maker so not really sure what that means but can take a guess or 2

As a rosin maker, after my bud is dry and trimmed (or trimmed and dried)..which I do very similar to Merl. I then store in painted glass jars (I don't like any light touching the Nuggs) with Boveda 62% sacks and don't touch them for about 5-6 weeks to make sure they reached their 62% or there abouts. I haven't used a moisture meter, but I was thinking I might get one of those hydrometers that is used for cigar humidors to rest on top of the Nuggs for a quick peak into the jar.

Interesting you should say that actually Itchy, I just bought something similar from Aldi

I have a slight leak in the shower cubicle in the bathroom here. We have a bloke come and do an inspection for white ants and he uses a moisture meter.

When he checks the wall the needle on his meter moves but it's not enough to make his meter light up. We have ants in the trees round the boundary and the damn thing lights/beeps up then

When I saw this at Aldi I thought "Grab it" so I did. It wasn't expensive, so what the hell.

Hadn't even thought of using it on bud. Good idea tho

hey mate

i've gone off the boveda packs , just because i had some empty jar that hadn't been completely cleaned out & still had the boveda packs in the jars

they had been sitting empty for at least 2 months maybe 3 , each jar when full had a different strain in them , finally got round to giving them a clean

& noticed each jar smelt the same as each other , nothing like the different buds that were in the jars , not that i expected them to still smell like the bud

that was in the jars i just didn't expect them to all smell the same

so i'm not sure bovedas don't impart something in the jars , many people use them so might just be me but if you have

spare jars & boveda packs be great to see if you find the same as i , the jars all smelling the same

that worked out well , always great to get multiple uses out of something

love to hear what you find if you have a play round with it

Exactly why I don't use them itchy, I noticed similar with jars that had buds n sealed for few months

The jars without them smelt n tasted same as the day they went in ,the boveda jars didn't come up to par at all
