PTSD advice please

MedMike69

Question

I was brought up in an abusive home with a father who abused his two boys and I started smoking weed when I was 17. I stopped when I met my wife aged 21. After I stopped I immediately (within the month) started to get migraine headaches. Every week I would get two or three, couldn’t work or see, and pain was incredible. Started to want to die and went to endless medical appointments. To cut a long story short I a, 50 next week and still get them. Doctor just diagnosed me as having chronic depression. He said it was off scale 10/10. I’ve been taking anti depressants but it leaves with massive ED so no sex with wife. It’s a huge thing to give up. I still get headaches or migraines and I suggested trying med cannabis again for depression. He did not want to get personally involved, but he said it was a good idea for me to try it on my own. However I’ve contacted some services in Australia and it looks like it will be far too exp. and you don’t get to chose what to buy, neither can you grow your own supposedly. I’ve been thinking of trying to buy off darknet but many markets now shut and I’m worried I will get into trouble as I am a teacher now. My life’s single goal is to give children the love and care that they should get. It’s a big risk to get it illegally and would prefer the legal route but whatever happens, it’s just not fair it’s not legal. I hope Australia changes their law soon bc it’s been proven that alcohol affects more than cannabis. It’s like we are living in the dark ages. I guess I’m just venting but also hoping you could share your POV or maybe even offer some advice. Regardless it’s nice to meet others in the community. Edited by MedMike69

Hey Mike,

Over the years other members here have been a massive support to me and I have no problem whatsoever in passing that support on.

Pain can be nasty and head pain is simply a bitch. Some people think all pain is the same and I strongly disagree. Leg pain affects your leg and you can have a limp where head pain can affect EVERYTHING.

As for what works best, now, that depends. It most definitely is not a 'one size fits all' sort of thing. For me it depends on the 'trigger' ie what has been the cause?

I need to sit down and analyze "What have I done to cause/exacerbate the pain?" Have I done too much? Is it tiredness? Has it been too physical? Has it been too mental? Is it bright light? Is it noise related? etc, etc

If I can identify a cause I can learn 'Ahh don't be doing that again' and then to manage it... I tend to get a bit frustrated with myself when I cannot find a cause.

I have a 'few canna tools' I utilize.

If I'm able to stop and do nothing and I mean absolutely nothing, I like my hash. Hash welds my arse to the lounge everytime, mellows me out bigtime and I can relax and just switch off to the world around me.

If I still need to function I can smoke a cone of some nice bud and I have a few differing smokes that I like to 'mix'n'match'. If I smoke the some strain repeatedly it tends to lose it's beneficial effect, so varying the smoke is a must for me.

If I need an increase in effect I may top a cone with a bit of oil, but again it really depends.

Often I find I may need to have a pharma and a choof to get things under control enough to function. But if I can lock myself away from the world for a couple of hours, I hit the hash HARD, then laydown for a bit.

But as I say it really can depend on the cause.

BUT,

Just like the dr's, some will make out that they have the 'key', BULLSHIT, everybody's key is different. You have to work out what is your key and what works best for you. Nobody else feels your pain in exactly the same way you do, so what works for you can be very individual. This is the same with the pharma crap, for some it can be a stress thing and a calmative can benefit, for some it can be a muscular thing so an anti inflammatory can benefit. For some it can just be pain and an opiate can work. But the problem I find with using pharmas continuously is that I need more and more to get the same benefit, where with canna by mixing it up both in strain and form a minimise the need to increase strengths.

Well, that's what I do, but it truly is a case of what works best for you as an individual in managing YOUR pain.

Hope it helps

Merl1n

Exercise mate. Cardio and anaerobic training.

Cannabis has shown to be beneficial to many.

Pharma crap. What a load of bullshit. Have you studied for over a decade as a specialist physician, I don't think so mate. I'm sick of hearing about these outrageous claims about how psychiatric medication is all crap. Sure it has its limitations and so do alot of doctors. But pharma this pharma that is getting old.

Not so sure merl1n "leg pain affects your leg and you can have a limp"

All long term chronic pain will fuck you up, it might not hurt your head but it will fuck it up.

You are right tho, long term inside ya head pain is probably the worse, but spare a thought for all the poor stnuc with chronic stomach pain, or chronic neck pain

unless ya walk a mile in someone else's shoes, ya can't really say how pain, especially long term will effect them

I has the PTSD..

I medicate heavily with alcohol which is a problem, weed helps but I'm not at all a heavy smoker.

Have tried CBD but don't find that helps. It's going to be a suck it and see thing.. I'm still searching for some relief.

I'm pharma free which is good for me! Was having shitty side effects

Most here know my story.

Depending on how bad the PTSD is you may need THC as well as CBD. I know cbd does nothing for my hubby, he needs high thc as well.

This time of year for a fast grow try autos.

Hey Pug,,,,

Perhaps try rendering down 1oz of decarboxilated bud with 2 cups of coconut oil and 2 tablespoons of lecithin . 2 hours at 70 c is enough. Strain off and put into capsules. 0 size works well. You can reduce potency by cutting the mix in half or quarter so you have control of dosing. It takes an hour or two to take effect but it works wonders without the smoke. Which bud you use will be up to you. Perhaps Sativa dominant would be more suitable for your condition? (not totally sure about this though) One thing for sure though is you gotta get off the piss train. It will fuck you up long term IMO.

At no point have I stated "...how psychiatric medication is all crap..." In fact quite the opposite as I do state "...it truly is a case of what works best for you as an individual in managing YOUR pain..." and if that's psych meds, so be it.

And exercise is a must but within your physical ability and if you abilities are limited then what????

I do not object ever to others having differing views, but PLEASE, if you are going to object to my statements make sure they are in context and not used as individual statements

As for your statement "Have you studied for over a decade as a specialist physician, I don't think so mate". You would be correct. I have not had my head stuck in a textbook studying as a specialist physician for over a decade. I studied for 5 years and I have been working with people with severe disabilities, hands on, and not just textbook theories and managing my own chronic pain for over two decades, so my statements on this subject come from personal experience, not what I have read nor someone else's opinion written in texts.

I have NEVER stated that my pain is worse than another's and my personal experiences with the pharmas has been extensive, so again, not sole based on opinion. I do agree that for some the pharmas have been their 'Key'. What I have stated is that they have not been mine.

You are more than welcome to disagree Farrow, but by the same degree I will also disagree with your blanket statement above of Cardio and anaerobic training. being the answer, for some maybe, but not for all.
