So I broke a stem

Recommended Posts

It really depends on what you call 'snapped'

The woody part of the stem is merely for strength to hold the plant upright, it provides no nutritional value at all.

The phloem or the green outer layer of the stem is the plants feed route, if that has been severed then the bud will die. When I say 'severed' I mean completely. It can be split, and that's OK, but when the green has been stripped from the stem fully, nothing can get through to feed the bud.

So, in short, so long as the phloem is still connected all should be fine.
