List of Australian Organic NoTill Amendments and Components

Recommended Posts

Sometimes I ask, sometimes I don't.

Given the marketing angle of these companies one would imagine that all their products would be organic?

Am I missing something here?

I saw somewhere that dr greenthumbs is launching a new fish product.

Amazing Australia does not do many fish type products given we are an island and also the popularity of fishing.

Given the amount of sea pollution, are fish caught off the coast or in inland rivers considered organic?

If a farmed fish in captivity is fed organic material but still a bit different to what they would normally eat in the wild due to supply, would that be considered organic?

I'm all about organic, closing the loop, supplementing my diet etc.

I have also smoked a fair bit of shitty bud, drank to excess, ate badly etc.

If my soil mix ain't 100% organic, well, wouldn't it still be a step in the right direction given the amount of processed inorganic crap indemenic in mainstream food that a lot of us eat, me included.

It's a journey, any starting point is great.

It's amazing how far comfrey tea will grow a plant using just peat moss, growing plants for plants has gotta be at least 180 degrees of the circle

itchy .. know what you mean mate. i don't grow in the ground, but still try to add goodies using cover crops and chopping and dropping when ready - some things like nettles, never really seem to stop growing. also helps me to see how much light penetration is occurring. i also ended up getting away from store bought as much as possible, by finding a nice remote beach and very carefully taking a bit of pumice from one place and a bit of cuttlefish bone a bit further up the beach. took me ages as i didn't want to disturb the natural flora, but ended up getting a nice collection for the future.

carb ... also know what your saying. i think it is more about the process in all honesty. i think it helps to get a bigger picture of what's really being put into farm and food inputs. after being so careful building our soil ... the next logical step would seem to then be looking at the food we eat and the environment we live in. at least for me, that's a big one. there has been a concerted effort to co-opt the idea of organic produce and recently organic inputs (especially in the US where things keep getting watered down) ... i just want something that is safe ... free of toxic chemicals. organic is a good starting point for me (especially in australia), if i have a choice though i will go biodynamic/demeter every time. if something says it's organic ... it can still be unsafe and unhealthy.

coot referenced this site that provides a breakdown of the components and toxins in 'organic' amendments ... scary shit. the levels of some heavy metals is eye opening. If interested on checking some items, just click on the letter of the product you are searching for and they will come up. guano, feather meal and other marine inputs are interesting reading.

Non-activated Biochar

https://www.triplerbiochar.com.au/product-page/2-litres-premium-biochar

found that the granules are a nice size. good to activate this with whatever goodies you like. last ages.

again ... no mention of organic and not sure if that even means anything with biochar. spoke to the people and they are coming from a good place and know what their doing.

Biodynamic Fish Concentrate (one for you Carb:))

https://biodynamics.net.au/product/biodynamic-fish-concentrate/

never used the product, but have a lot of time for the dedication of biodynamic farmers, in regards to not skimping on a process and their strong affinity with nature.

Seaweed Meal

https://www.natrasol.com.au/natkelpmeal

nice tassie bull kelp - goes a long way. if looking for smaller quantities, they sell a certified organic range for people as well. think they are exactly the same product ... called organic wild tassie kelp at:

Nicely said Pug. That link will be useful, thanks for that.

What do you think about these 2 points.

1. The idea that like wine, different years produce different harvests. The winemaker can change but the ground produces differently every year depending on conditions.

This translates to Cannabis, and this of course leads to the different characteristics that the environment that year creates a unique flavour profile, thc\cbd etc production.

This leads to one thinking that outdoor in theory will always create something far better than indoor due to sun and the "terre war" (spelling) individual to that area.

Whatever about running cycles through a pot, surrounding outdoor cannabis with local plants all integrated into the mycelium network is the shit and almost not comparable to even the best indoor according to some. (Check out breeder steve).

Now I know that this pertains to outdoor growing only. The study of organic growing ultimately keeps running into outdoor growing.

Now I don't think I have perfected indoor, fucking far from it but I feel the pull of outdoor growing like never before.

2.

According to my research, adding up to 10% bottle nutes (generic term) seems to really go like fuck according to a few different things I have read.and heard.

These bottled nutes could be organic.

It wouldn't really be my thing but have experimented with organic nutes from a bottle to supplement a hungry 24\0 auto.

3. Been reading bout overfeeding plants in organic soil with no symptoms like leaf edge burn. Is that lush green we all love to see maybe still a tad too much. I wonder?

Love to hear thoughts from everybody.

Great thread pug, sorry if I'm pulling it off topic. A bit

hi carb .. no worries mate ... off topic is good.

good questions and these are just my opinion.

1. reckon you are spot on (same with Fred) ... good outdoor soil will always piss on indoor manufactured soil - no comparison. the root depth level, root mass and the ability to access everything that is needed, means it will always be better. same goes for the sun - nothing can beat it. itchy is the man here ... i think he only grows outdoors. :)

2. i think it would go like fuck ... lol ... because the bottled nutes are most likely feeding the plant and not the soil - a bit like the hydro process. long term though ... i think using good top-dresses and mulch would win out and taste so much better. i've known people who use fish concentrate and alfalfa teas and they talk about the same things. i used to do teas (really like microbe man'/tim wilson's practical research), but ended up getting sick of cleaner the airstones - just seemed like too much work. these days i follow mountain organics kelp/neem soak recipe and that seems to do enough. never grown autos ... so can't say for sure, but i also prefer using the gas lantern routine and diminishing light schedule by Reinhard Delp - works well for me and reduces heat and lighting costs heaps.

3. i'm a big believer in the plant knowing exactly what it needs. if surrounded by the right beneficial organisms that help to obtain nutrients and feed the plant ... reckon it is difficult to overfeed using a cc and mountain organic soil/foliar/mulching advice. i don't have a green thumb and my plants do okay ... someone who is in touch with growing ... they get incredible results. i think it is more than likely that most rev soil mixes with layers and spikes overfeed plants, as they are not helping the beneficial organisms. i have even heard that some people 'flush' these types of soil ... which to me just shows that they are coming from a different perspective.

last ones for a while and they come directly from itchy's recommendations ... thanks mate - really like these products.

NTS Fast Fulvic

https://farmagronomy.com.au/product/nts-fast-fulvic/

works great every ten days or so when watering in combination with Powdered Malted Barley, potassium silicate and Aloe vera powder. never bought from this site (the one i bought from has closed down), but included it, as it sells in 1L quantities. the NTS site seems to be sold out:

https://shop.nutri-tech.com.au/products/fast-fulvic

NTS Potassium Silicate

https://farmagronomy.com.au/product/potassium-silicate/

good for foliar sprays with aloe vera and neem - helps to emulsify the neem oil.

https://shop.nutri-tech.com.au/products/potassium-silicate

info can be found at the Nutri-tech Solutions page above, but only allows for a 5L purchase, which would be too much for most gardeners.
