List of Australian Organic NoTill Amendments and Components

Recommended Posts

G’day organic/biodynamic No-Tillers :)

Been noticing lately that there are a few stores selling soil amendments in Australia - one at least seems legit, but some of the others are very questionable … one even uses the word ‘Organic’ in their business, but doesn’t sell any organic components.

Thought it might be time to start a thread where we can list our organic suppliers. In this situation … I’m thinking those that are certified by Australian organic/biodynamic/demeter organisations would be great. If that is not possible, either organically grown/sourced in Australia and are known to be free of the ‘cides’ or lastly … have organic certification from other countries. Of course there will be a few inorganic minerals and compounds that we use, but for any plant or animal product, would like to get an organic australian supplier list going.

Before starting …. just a quick explanation as to why the stress on organics … in no-till, what is put in the soil pretty much stays in the soil. If we use one dodgy ingredient it stuffs up all the effort in being healthy. Sometimes it is hard to find out if something is organic, but there is an easy way … ask the supplier where the product comes from (grown/sourced) and if it is organically certified. Anyone selling good, healthy products will enjoy telling you all about them. Anyone who doesn’t reply or doesn’t know … is more in it for the money than helping others. In the end, it’s about keeping out all the toxic products from our soil that contain chemicals/minerals/radiation that are used in ridiculous amounts to kill ‘pests’, ‘weeds’, insects or fungi/yeast. It’s also about tracing where the components come from, as it is useless getting an organic certified product from a country that is radiated, uses crap water and or grows in polluted air. Basically, it’s about trying to grow the healthiest plants possible, so we can actually improve our health while toking, vaping, eating and any other enjoyable manner of consumption. :)

Here we go …

Neem Oil
https://neemoil.com.au/neem-oil-100-/neem-oil-500-ml.html
Uses imported organic neem from India - is not certified in Australia (that I can see).
Comments: had a good chat with the lady selling her Neem oil and have been using it for years. She knows her stuff, is very transparent about where and how it is sourced and the neem oil has done the job very well. Recommend heating water to about 35 degrees (or so your finger is warm but not hot) and then mixing with aloe vera powder and potassium silicate/soap nut powder - this neem oil can get thick in the cold.

Neem Meal
https://plantneeds.com.au/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=255
Last I checked (a fair while ago) uses neem from Northern Territory and India. The label has changed over the years, but the product still seems the same …now called ‘Planc’. Think it can be bought in 5kg lots as well, which lasts donkeys. Has Australian organic certification. They also sell Neem Oil, but haven’t bought that from them.

Malted Barley
https://www.craftbrewer.com.au/pilsener-malt-organic-weyermann-organic
Two choices here and both are good. Grain is sourced from Germany and has EU organic certification … not sure if it also is Australian certified. Have been using this for a couple of years, stored in an airtight container … still good as new.

Hope this is helpful and looking forward to hearing from other notillers about all their organic soil amendments. :)

organic soil

I walk out the back yard and dig a hole that soil is fill or worms and the dark soil i grew up with to me that is organic if you are adding anything no so much organic natural more man added too

fair call fred ... totally agree. :)

nature is the only true organic. unfortunately, many of us don't have access to this goodness and have to make do with adding to poor outdoor soil or 'making' a soil mix for indoor grows.

love worm porn ... seeing them in soil. always brings a smile.:)

not wrong ... hoping between us all that we can cover most of the main ones and maybe even those that are local. :)

saw this on a couple of north american forums and always wanted an australian version. itchy has already done most of the heavy lifting ... just thought it might be good to put all the info in one place. many of my components have come from his suggestions ... love the NTS range ... thanks mate.:)

opps should have read your post a lill better pug

no worries itchy.:)

been reading DNG's thread and it all seems pretty good. nice to have a one-stop shop. only thing that I would ask him before buying his products (or anyone's products) is where it was grown/sourced. for me this is vital information for safety. i am hoping from this thread that if the country of origin isn't mentioned by a seller, then hopefully growers have another option to get this information directly from the seller/manufacturer.:)

good example is Saul's aloe vera products ... like you mentioned, there are different strengths and varieties and each one is grown in a different country. he is very upfront about it though, so all good i reckon.:) would love to check out his operation ... reckon he is a bit of a character.

Basalt and Palagonite Dust

https://biodynamics.net.au/product/palagonite/

https://biodynamics.net.au/product/dorrigo-basalt-crusher-dust/

Found the palagonite dust to be very fine and mixes well with soil. good stuff and last ages.

Mycorrhiza

https://www.mycoapply.com.au/

heaps of varieties ... only problem is that it comes in big quantities. seems to last though and is in a resealable pack. comes out of WA.

isn't certified as organic ... i'm not sure if myco can have an organic label ... hopefully others can help with this one.

Biodynamic Compost - WA only

http://www.intuitearth.com.au/compost/

haven't tried this one, but wish i could. looks amazing and can be bought retail. anyone from WA ... reckon this would be my first stop for compost.

Crab/Crustacean/Shrimp Meal Replacement - NZ only

http://www.bioactivesoils.co.nz/portfolio/garden-fertiliser/

this is another wish list for me. any kiwis on the board ... this stuff looks choice. can't see it ever coming to oz ... but can always wish.:)

it's a pain we have to ask all these Q's to make sure we're getting a "clean" product but we have no choice

considering some nasties can hang round

having to ask those types of Q's lots over the years has brought me to cover / green manure crops rather than

having to ask those Q's all the time , there's other reasons & benefits but that was one of the reasons
