Deep water culture pot sizes

Hey gang

I’m looking into switching from drain to waste with coco soil to dwc- I have a mate who’s been growing for years this way and been doing my own research lately .

I’m going to DIY it , and have 3 plants going but I’ve heard mixed reviews - some people will have a long reservoir with 2 ,3 plants but I was thinking of interlinking 3 seperate pots with a seperate reservoir to make water changes easier etc .

Question is would a 20L bucket with a lid be adequate for the roots or would you recommend larger buckets or square poly lid containers ? Does it work like the bigger the reservoir the bigger the plant or simply veg time to size you want .

At least a 20 litre bucket/container at the bare minimum. Reason being, usually a 1/4 (give or take) of the space is a void that is wasted at the top because of the pot and/or plant takes. A good healthy plant will 3/4's fill a 20L bucket within 8-10 week with a tight rootball.
