Not what I expected

Recommended Posts

Time for an update. It's been mixed weather, the first week was cool and cloudy, the second hot and sunny. Growth has been ok but nothing spectacular but at least they are starting to show some resin now.

I expect none of them will be ready before April, unfortunately as I finished last year's crop mid January I will be sacrificing at least part of one plant before then as I am hanging out for a smoke and I refuse to buy. It's not a real problem; I have twice as many plants as I wanted to have due to the disaster of the first planting. I am somewhat uncomfortable having 10 plants in the garden as this is twice my normal crop; I'm a cleanskin so a bust would not normally concern me overmuch but with 10 plants I worry about being done for a commercial quantity.

I am surprised that all the plants look to me to be sativa dominant with narrow leaves and quite stretchy. Am I mistaken in expecting indica dominant plants should be squat with broad leaves?

The 1st plantings vary in height from 40cm to 100cm. The second plantings vary from 150cm to 180cm.

The unknown strain is on the right, you can see where I got over enthusiastic in bending the top over. I'll be cutting it off when it gets some more resin to keep me going till I harvest.

that was my excuse lol, shes a bit windy today and its as dry as fuck, fires still out of control by the looks of it, it could get a lot bigger

Yes I just checked the website https://emergency.vic.gov.au/respond/ and it is within 20 km of me now. I'm not smelling any smoke so it's not heading directly for me fortunately. I hope the expected change doesn't have strong winds as it will be a dry change and with the fire front suddenly widening the fire could dramatically increase.

Nice little patch, I wouldn't get parranoid about 10 plants, I am pretty sure it's over 50 plants that's classed as a commercial quantity. They say to grow large and keep it personal, patches of 49 are recommended. I agree with you on the coco coir, it's my first year using it and have been using Phostergen as well as Manutecs Hydroponic Fertilser. When I fertilised with Seasol it made them go yellow and lose any growth spurt they had, now when I water I mix a watering can up and put the hydroponic solution shared between 8 pots and they're doing fine. My advice with brunnings is that you get what you pay for, most of their product comes from the dump, it stinks, has weeds and no fertiliser added to it. Searles is a bit better but doesn't always have all the ingredients added to it, at least they put Searles put a good amount of peat in the mix and I would say from my experience working for both companies that the peat80 is the best mix from either company. I believe your best bet is to access a good landscaping yard and mix your own, a good mix is composted shavings(40%), composted pine bark(35%) and the rest is perlite, vermiculate, soil wetter, fertiliser and a mix of composted manure. At least Brunnings Cow Manure is what it is as the Rocky Point that I purchased had wood chip in it and I know cow manure does not have wood chip in it. I was impressed at the root structure the coco coir produced as I bathed my pots in a 60L tub twice a week, when I pulled one of my males I had a look at the root structure and it was probably one of the best root balls I have ever seen in a pot, you just have to feed them right. I hope to see a picture of these after another 8 weeks?
