A Medical Use Journal

WAIX_Herbie

Question

Background

At the age of 12 my lower back was broken and my spinal cord injured. As a result I've been in a wheelchair ever since. The lower back pain is tolerable and I could live with synthetics for the most part if that were the only problem.

I had a through the knee amputation on my left leg about 5 years ago now and the docs bungled it while doing it. They damaged the nerve that runs down the inside of the leg and wraps around the knee. That causes me pretty much constant pain.

Medication

Currently taking about six Tramal 100SR, four Tramal 50, twelve Neurontin 600, two Endep 10, and four Panadine 500/8's a day. When this doesn't cut the pain I'll take as many as four more Tramal 100SR's and four more Tramal 50's. That's 28 pills on a good day and as many as 36 on a bad day.

The Tramal (both kinds) and the Neurontin are diaretics. About an hour after I take them there's a terrible rush to get to any toilet where I can relieve my aching bladder. The effects of taking too much Paracetamal are well known and the Codine in the Panadine binds my stomach up something terrible.

The Experiment

The times when a new season is coming on are the worst. A transition from Spring to Summer and Fall to Winter with the extreme changes in barametric pressure have me in absolute agony right now if I'm not taking my painkillers. Even taking the entire dose I still have breakthrough pain. Have talked to Pain Management Specialist and am told there's really not a lot they can do for me except to continue trying different dosages of a combination of painkillers until we hit a combination that works.

Enter that wonderful, god-given, miracle herb. For the last three evenings I've loaded up my new bong with a bit of water in the bottom to cool the smoke and as much leaf as I can pack into the bowl and I've smoked till there's nothing left in the bowl.

For the last two evenings I've been able to skip my second lot of evening painkillers (4 Neurontin, 2 Tramal 100SR) because after about half a dozen bong hits (I need a bigger bowl) I'm feeling no pain.

The Only Problem

I mentioned with the painkillers I'm on I've gotta run to take a piss after about an hour and am in and out of the bathroom three or four more times in the course of a few hours. Way too much compared to when I wasn't taking them.

The mj doesn't make me wanna piss but there are a few "side effects" which I am enjoying.

Time Dialation is the first one. Time seems to really stretch out. It takes forever to do anything. It feels like I've been typing this for an hour even though I know it's been no more than five minutes.

Thinking I'm actually talking is the second. I'll be watching TV and be sure I said something to my wife about the current program, I ask her what she thinks about whatever I was sure I was talking about and I found out I've only been thinking what I thought I was verbalizing. This may be just the wife messing with me while I'm stoned but I tend to think it's legit.

Third would be the pressure around my head. It feels as though someone has stuck my head in a giant vise and is pressure just enough to hold it firmly. This isn't a painful or unpleasant feeling. It's kinda comfortable in a way.

Conclusion at this time

The benefits at this time of smoking far outweigh the "negative" effects, at least in how I'm effected. I'm able to cut six to fourteen of my daily drugs out with half a dozen bong hits and this is still with shitty leaf. I can't wait to see how much better it workd once I get some good buds. That happens tomorrow. I'll update more later.

Try a Sativa dominant strain, it has a more uplifting high that lets you get on with the things that need to be done whereas the Indica stone makes you very lethargic.

:peace:

a little background

I smoked quite a bit between 1987 and 1989 but have had, quite literally, nothing to do with mj since then. At that time I was a stupid teenager looking for a way to escape from the shit my family life and the fallout from the car wreck in 1984 were putting me through. I really didn't care what was what as long as I got away for a while.

Can I get a rundown of the most popular Sativa strains and the most popular Indica strains? I see names like Bubblicous (sp?) and White Widow and it's pretty obvious as to why they're named as they are but I have no idea what the genetic background of the strains is.

Most popular is a matter of opinion. It's a matter of trying some and seeing what you like. You might like a sativa dominant or you may prefer a 50:50 ratio. There's no telling for sure, everyones different.

The feelings are: sativa is very light, giddy, laughy sort of like a champagne drunk. Indica is heavy, sleepy, slow almost like being heavily drunk and buried up to your neck in sand. Think about the experiences you have had and you will see what i mean.

If you have a look at the descriptions of the strains in the seedbanks they just about always tell you if they are indica or sativa dominant and some tell the ratio too.

A good sativa i know of is Durban Poison, it's one of the most sativa strains around.

Yeah, it's a bit of trial and error to find the one that suits you the best. If you plan to grow indoors then a pure Sativa is going to take a long time in the flowering cycle (12 weeks +), I would check out Cannagenetics, select the "Mostly Sativa" option in the "Strains of TYPE:" menu and then click "Search", that will provide you with a fairly extensive list of Sativa dominants to browse through.

Its a hard call for a med user.

Sativas give a better daytime stone so you can still get off the couch and do stuff.

Indicas are the main med strains and the ones to grow for pain relief and insomnia.

Hell, right now with only one dose left in the house I'd be happy to have anything. Anyone willing to help a med user out in Perth?

cannagenitcs is da bomb of mj information :thumbsup

from what i have gathered your pain in below the neck so indica would be the way to go...

a really good sativa strain can make u see/hear things, make your heart race and have u buzzing about the house like your on speed :smoke is all in the head with very little body stone to it and usually the high wears off with no drowsy come down...

a really good indica strain will make your body numb, make your body tingle and give u the infamous "couch-lock" effect....basically a totally narcotic feeling with happyness as a bonus :D

personally i like about 30% indica to 70% sativa....White Widow is about this percentage and would be perfect for me...its totally covered in resin, tastes great and has a very nice stone that is worth talking about ::D: its actually set standards world wide for its resin content and the high from smoking the buds lol

as for you, not knowing much about weed (strain wise, etc) just look at the deals you are getting and get the chunkiest, fattest buds u can without leaf and that smell like buds not chemicals....if it has a chemical kinda smell dont worry, just means it hasnt been cured and wont be as potent or smooth as smoke as it could be but will still have the same great effects :thumbsup getting the chunkiest buds usually ensures a great stone along with an indica dominate strain which should really help u out :)

A long awaited update?

Haven't been around much, been very very busy closing down a business and trying to straighten life around here out.

The Cannabutter cookies were all right. The doseage varied too much to be useful for medical use though. Nice, long lasting high with good pain relief once I got enough though.

Went and saw my pain management specialist today. Discussed MJ use for cronic pain. She was more than understanding and encouraged me to be careful not to get caught. Duh.

I've been using mainly leaf based joints as I can get as much as I could ever use for nothing and the joint form makes it quite easy to transport (and hide if needed) so that I can use it wherever I might need it.

I got taken off Tramal today for a minimum of a month and most probably two. The idea is to get it completely out of my system so that it'll be effecttive for me again. I'm quite happy about the idea but also a bit concerned about the fact that they've put me on 10mg of Oxycontin twice a day.

Interesting times ahead for sure.
