Not even that. The power companies know what's going in and out of the grid, and can make some guesstimates. I wouldn't get solar for the purposes of masking my energy usage.

Heaps here have battery banks as storage. The Queensland government encourages it. Alit of people want the money from feeding back into the system though. But if you never hook solar up to the grid they would never know

Interesting Aqua. A standalone system would work but once its hooked up to the mains then they know.

I just looked. No curtains just blocked out windows. Like, come on people at least put curtains up and have a bbq sometimes. Fuck and people think I'm dumb

What I don't understand is how these people were supposed to be stealing power from surrounding houses?

 

This would infer that all the houses have a common shared power source and a common shared meter(which i highly doubt) . If the houses are isolated then they can't all use a common power source except for the same power company.

 

So they are stealing from the power company, most likely through the back of the meter box. If the power companies want, they can track down the power not being paid for through the grid. All depends if they notice large amounts of power being stolen. The longer the theft goes on, the more likely the power company is to notice the power draw not being paid for by someone. So they track it down and call the cops.

The house are in a typical suburban area. Sunny Bank has a few big shopping centres as well as public/private schools. Average house price as a guess 500k
