Haven't used AN products, but previously I have used nutes that contain kelp/seaweed extract in them in my previous RDWC systems, and maintained good healthy root growth without the use of a chiller in SEQ. Admittedly, I shut down general growing and maintain Mother plants over Summer just occasionally giving them the light dose of H2O2. But otherwise, when in full swing, I used nutes with seaweed extract. A batch would last 4 weeks easily (just top up with PH balanced water) and it would develop a culture in the bottom of rez usually within 2 weeks.

If you wanted to avoid the chems to some extent, it might be worth considering..

Bit of info here about it benefits of it. https://www.advancednutrients.com/articles/why-kelp-can-be-a-hydroponic-growers-best-friend/

The root stims aren’t the same as mycorrs.

Should be used in conjunction with it.

Only need to add the shark a few times during the grow from what I understand of it.

I haven’t been able to find any proper info on weather it’s even really needed in dwc at all. Some people say it can turn bad but who knows. If it’s working ok then keep with it.

Look into the GH stuff as well cause I thought it was made by the same people but just without the fancy labelling.

House and garden isn’t bad and the current culture base stuff seems to be good.

the shark has done well with what seemed, to this novice, to be very vigorous root growth early on when i could get good access to lift out the basket, before the scrog net went on ... full strength at res changes and every 2 weeks or so a half scoop during a top up.

i tried H&G roots excel when i first set up the bucket... freaked me a bit when it made everything go slimy so i switched to great white before i had any serious issues.

by the current culture base stuff do you mean the UC Roots product?

Yea I can’t get a clear answer on that from anyone papa.

There’s a few RDWC things I’ve seen that say don’t add it to keep the system sterile but then I’ve seen to add mycorr.

I’ve chucked it in a couple of times this grow and it seems to be working good. Little bit of sediment in the bottom of the modules but nothing negative.

researched the shark again last night for running in dwc and read some positive stuff for active and passive systems with only one person i could find having any problems. i've read ppl using the H&G without issue but i didn't like it, not in dwc anyway. in coco and even soil seems to be very very good... maybe i could of let it go and worked out great but that slime didn't give me much confidence.

maybe it could have been the same as when i add the bio-organic Biodiesel guano bloom ... the res goes from a clear tint to murky/muddy looking but after 24 hrs is clear again just with the slight tint from the base nutes just a little darker.

Yea H&G now have a RDWC vase nute range out now. Not sure if it’s in Australia though.

Current culture have a full range out. Base nutes, calmag, bloom boosters etc.....

They’re all solely targeting RDWC.

hi Indycar, thanks for chiming in. i'm not phased either way on running a sterile or non sterile res, whatever works. I've got some automatic and photo yardies that are in soil/coco/perlite which i call my "bunnings" grow using only their products tho i do add Biodiesel guano bloom too and some pure coco using  H&G coco A&B and have some compost just about ready to go for a pure organic grow so i've got a good spectrum of growing styles going.

you have a thread on your kelp/seaweed r-dwc? the link you sent is very interesting with bio-organics making their way more and more into dwc.

I've got the full range of Biodiesel nutrient products for my next r-dwc grow but ultimately want to scale right back on products (fukken cupboard looks like a mini hydro shop!) and very very keen to try a grow using only GH maxi bloom with koolbloom powder + root tonic/stimulator and simplify\economise my grows.

was all hopped up to get my new sog r-dwc system up and running straight after current grow is done but keep ignoring that summer is fast approaching and don't have time and $$$ to get an insulated grow room with aircon set up to get thru the punishing summer they're predicting for this year so will be doing the same... shutting down until a month or so before the cool weather returns and just keep the mums going and play around with my yardies over the hotter months. i just love growing weed!
