Senate Hearing Will Review Federal Cannabis Restrictions

When it comes to Federal drug law reform, there have been very promising signs recently. A single senate hearing may be a little premature to really get our hopes up,

but nevertheless; this Friday (17th of August), the Senate will be hearing submissions from a bill that Senator David Leyonhjelm introduced a few months ago.

Among the speaking parties will be the National Drug Research Institute, the Department of Health, the Australian Federal Police, the Border Force, the Australian

Christian Lobby and the Families and Friends for Drug Law Reform

.

The bill, known as The Criminal Code and Other Legislation Amendment (Removing Commonwealth Restrictions on Cannabis) Bill 2018, is endorsed by the Liberal

Democrats and the Greens. If passed, it would dramatically alter the status quo of federal drug policy, essentially legalising the drug on a federal level.

After the hearing, the Senate will take several votes on the bill. If it passes, the bill will funnel down to the House of Representatives before it becomes law.

A few weeks back when the question was put to Turnbull he said flat out said he wasn't backing it.

But yeah, like nici. It'd be interesting to hear how it went.

It will be interesting...... Turnbull, it seems has no plan to back canna. Publicly he speaks straight from the "reefer madness handbook" so it will be an up hill battle.

in 1961 Australia signed the single convention on narcotic drugs, this convention supports an obligation to make cannabis available as medicine

most current federal and state cannabis control acts are in contradiction to this

its got me fucked why the make medical cannabis legal crew don't bring this up
