1st Time grower - Can you help? pls

Recommended Posts

hi all,
im a first time grower growing with a friend indoors under a Mars 2 400w LED, my tent size is 120cm high x 120cm wide and 60cm deep,im using a scrog method to maximize my small space. have two small fans inside the tent for circulation. (the tent doesnt get above 25 degrees max and possibly gets as low as 15 when im asleep) im growing in soil with a mixture of perlite, coco, organic soil, and organic compost, we started our grow on the 22nd of May, our 6 plants (bagseed, possibly just two different strains. 20cmpots) were going great until about a month or so in when they started slowly developing red/purple stems and yellowing leaves and stunted growth, the problem has slowly gotten worse to the point of all 6 main stems and peitoles on my plants are turning this colour, i havent been feeding our plants too much as im worried that this problem was caused from nutrient lockout when we added ferts (powerfeed, seasol, gogo juice, all in small amounts prior to getting a ph pen. all our plants have the exact same conditions to live in yet we are seeing alot of variety when it comes to symptoms. Recently since getting a ph pen we were able to test our water and found out that it runs naturally basic at 7.5. (or so, city water) we have been watering with ph'ed water for a couple weeks now and were seeing a bit of green on one or two plants come back, however the problem is still clearly rampant (you will see in photos) i will attach an image of the current horticultural products we have access to so any advice would be dearly appreciated! in the last week ive noticed some of the plants starting to bud without me changing the light cycle at all, i added an hour to the time its on per day to combat this however i dont think itll do the trick, i wanted to give them some nitrogen but im worried thatll further the problems i already have. i did a runoff test for some of the plants and it came back at about 6.4 PH. i dont have an ec or ppm meter yet but did a drip test ph strip and it came back with about 40-80 ppm. it has been a pretty cold winter this year so temps have been fluctuating slightly with the use of a heater in the bedroom its in, we are trying to minimise this as we know temps are important but its hard to avoid sometimes, theres not alot of fresh air in the room however theres alot of drafts. since the plants developed red stems some leaves have developed chlorosis and general yellowing sometimes in strange patterns pretty consistently, and of course stunted growth, we water the plants when its dry upto the first knuckle in soil, ive noticed that it takes a while to dry up but the plant doesnt seem to be showing signs of over watering at least to my eye lol. if anyone could possibly help my friend and myself fix this problem so were good to flower your help would be greatly appreciated! happy to answer more questions about my setup and other questions you may have as we are desperate.   post-63967-0-26643700-1530277729_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-98056600-1530277793_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-57871400-1530277871_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-96298700-1530277921_thumb.jpg post-63967-0-22263100-1530277969_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-76900400-1530277995_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-12429900-1530278033_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-83708300-1530278075_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-21772000-1530278124_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-59303800-1530278166_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-53320300-1530278191_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-55318500-1530278220_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-45314400-1530278276_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-39638200-1530278321_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-99765200-1530278367_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-50254200-1530278427_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-82864400-1530278474_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-81862300-1530278523_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-40509600-1530278561_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-50507300-1530278618_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-00940500-1530278682_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-39341300-1530278748_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-35181200-1530278783_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-15670600-1530278978_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-63905200-1530279049_thumb.jpg  post-63967-0-92400100-1530279122_thumb.jpg   post-63967-0-79120600-1530279914_thumb.jpg

gday tmgrows.

your plants dont look to be in too bad shape. had some ph issues by the looks but if that new growth is looking good, keep watching that and let them go.

those shitty leaves wont get any better so concentrate on new growth .

purple stems prob from the cooler weather.

looks like u on the right track tho.

you have a good mixture of medium there...

imo you should try and stick to one medium, if new to growing indoors, some kind of soil mix can be more forgiving,

you gotta lot of different nutes n things going in there to,

slow down, the plant will show you what it needs over time,

at the moment looks like your killin it with love...

deafinitely looks like you got some sort of nute problems, as to reficity, i dont know lol sorry man!

...and at some time i would improve your light aswell,

plenty of debates in other threads to try and make up your mind which one to get lol

and welcome to OzStoners!

Howdy! cheers for your response! even the leaves on the new growth eventually yellow starting with yellow spots, we thought it may be lightburn so we maximised the space between the light and the scrog to around 50cm but it seems to still be happening. were just not sure why the red stems on one plant seem to have started reverting to green stems in the last two weeks, so surely the red stems arent natural? theyre getting ph'ed water now too, but some of them are getting greener while others arent. do we have too many plants? weve got 6 in the tent.

Cheers!

Hey man! why would the light need improving? we actually thought it may be lightburn (and a mix of other things too) as it looks like the canopy is an epicentre of yellow leaves? i understand our grow is a little messy so its hard to see what plants are where in the photos. the light is a Mars II 400w with an actual power usage of 150w, isnt this large enough for a smaller tent? cheers :)

Hey TM,

Nothing wrong with your light, it's does the job,

I have no LED experience, but it does not look like light

burn to me , looks like a nute issue.

Hopefully someone else will stop by with a solution.

What sort of soil is it

How's your drainage?

Your lights too high , u can tell this by the space of the nodes

The browning on the leaf is caused by high humidity n low temps

Your room is getting a lot lower than 15

The yellow is 1 of 2 things , nutrient lockout or lack of nutrients

Overwatering

Poor root formation, could be caused by lack of aeration of soil

Answer a few of these ? and I might be able to help

hiya, the medium is a mix of soil, compost, (all organic) perlite and a little bit of coco for water retention although we probably didnt need this. drainage seems to be okay when we water it, the runoff is only a portion of the water we put in so we know its not all just going straight through the pot, theres also plenty of perlite in there for aeration, although you cant really see as we added some more soil to the pots as it sunk over time. When we first started our plants they were booming with new growth, the ones that look stretched were almost directly under the light while the others that are stockier and more bush shaped had slightly less light? im pretty sure its two strains of plants in there but of course theres no way to confirm. we havent fertilised in weeks as were afraid adding more fertilisers incase this furthers the problem. i cant say ive ever seen the temp lower than 15 degrees its usually around 18 or so when i open it. how would we fix the lockout if were watering with ph'ed water already? were really stuck. theres time when they have probably been wet for longer than they should admittedly, still didnt really show telltale signs of over watering. should we lower the light? how do we stop the new growth that looks good from yellowing as it has already started? how do you control humidity and whats your optimal range in a colder environment? thanks for you response!
