Police say 65 people were caught with illicit drugs in their system during a major blitz in the Nimbin area.

Highway patrol officers conducted 2,370 road-side saliva tests during a four-day operation.

The blitz coincided with Nimbin's annual Mardi Grass Festival.

Inspector Peter McMenamin said some motorists tested positive to a cocktail of drugs.

"There's a number that just tested positive to THC, and there's a number of them that tested positive to multiple drugs," he said.

"We had a number of them that tested positive to both methamphetamine and THC, and cocaine and methamphetamine were two of the mixes that we tested positive for."

Police say they also conducted about 2,500 road-side breath tests in the area, with two people caught over the limit.

$118,500 in swabs, plus Coppers & resources paid overtime, away allowance, accommodation & other perks. Guessmating there's fuck all change out of a Million Bucks. Just to make a example of 65 stoners. Oh, we haven't processed them through Courthouse yet.

 

All this expenditure to back up unjust legislation. As it only test for drugs in one's system, 'n not the extent of intoxication which it should be based on. Imagine the uproar if drunks were blowing over 2-3 days later after their last drink, the general public would be calling for the cunts to be strung up.

 

I'm not too keen on stoners taking to the road either, that's the same for any other drugs or alcohol that impairs ones senses (whether it be legal or illegal). But the current swab testing process isn't fuckin' right.

i never have been to mardi grass yet,, with the crack down and hustling by the  cops, would put people off, fair enough, that meth and cocaine is bad, nothing wrong with THC, its just a herb and natural. I think there is better things for them to do that hustle everyone going to town
