Vic seizures after drug charges

A convicted gangland killer once sentenced to death has been charged with drug offences in country Victoria.

The un-named man, now in his 50s, was arrested and charged after police using sniffer dogs raided his home near Bendigo on Monday night.

Officers seized two cars, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and cash when they swooped on the Midland Highway, Epsom, property.

The arrest was part of the Bendigo police Operation Luxes into the trafficking of methylamphetamines.

He was later charged with trafficking a commercial quantity of amphetamines, proceeds of crime offences and possession of cannabis.

The same man was sentenced to hang over the 1973 murder of a union official in a Melbourne suburban hotel.

The sentence was later commuted to life and he served 14 years.

He was later charged and acquitted over the murder of another man in Pentridge Prison.

The man was yesterday remanded in custody to appear again in Bendigo Magistrates' Court on January 19 next year.
