A few questions for flowering (noob)

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I hope everyone grows are going well!

My first out door is going to be concluding fairly soon (I think).

I've been growing outdoor in a small plastic greenhouse for privacy and I'm growing a strain called CBD hash which flowers in 7 weeks.

I have a few questions at this later stage of the grow:

1). I'm not exactly sure how many weeks i've been flowering, but I'd say it's been 3-4 weeks or so? Is it normal for this many leaves to be yellowing at this stage?

I know more energy is going to the buds and with a fairly short 7 week flower time maybe this happens more rapidly?

I have upped my feeding in the past few weeks also... Previously I didn't feed the plants anything except for a few sprays of Seasol as my soil was pretty good. I have given some Potash with a TINY bit of powerfeed formula to the plants twice during flowering as I thought they needed more nutrients.

2). I'm buying a 30x magnifying glass so I can observe the right time to harvest. I picked a higher CBD strain as I would prefer a more CBD high with lower THC... How should the trichomes look if I want it slightly higher on the CBD side? 20% amber or any recommendations on how I should know when the right time to harvest is?

3). For drying, I plan to cut the nugs straight away and store them in a shoe box in my closet with a few cut out holes for ventilation.
I know I don't really want high temps during this drying phase so would it be okay for a small fan to be blowing on the box?

I'm not really going to be paying attention to humidity during this time like I know some people do but I live in Victoria so I don't envision it to be overly dry or humid during this time.

I've been trying to watch as many youtubes videos on this process as I could but a lot of people do it different ways... I think the shoe box method would be easiest for me.

Is it true that by the end you want the outer layer of the buds to be dry but the very middle part (aprox 20-30%) should have a little bit of moisture.

4). With curing, is the process I plan to do correct?

-Store buds in mason jars in a dark place for about a month).

-Daily or almost daily I should open the jars and burp them, take the buds out and put them back in, rotating the buds around (bottom go top, top go bottom).

-If the buds somehow become moist, open the jar for like 2 hours or so or put them back in the shoe box until the moisture is gone to prevent mold.

5) I plan to flush just once before harvest. When should I do this?

Thanks for the help guys!

I agree you’d nearly have a month to go before they would be close. Flower times tend to be underestimated by the breeders. Don’t know about optimum cbd picking out I’d assume it would be when the tri comes are clear to milky

With the drying I personally hang the branches till the stem cracks went bent then do final trim and into the jars

CBD % is best when majority of trichomes appear amber especially when it is high in CBD genetically. Yellow leaves look normal but if it creeps up the plant too "fast" like I had for a bit then it is a deficiency caused by incorrect soil/water PH. I would flush 1-2 weeks before expected harvest with tap water that has beeen evaporated in sun for a while (this aligns PH nicely) other then that nice plants mate.

Thanks for your reply!

also you should get rid of all those yellow leaves, you want your girl to put all her energy into trichome production not into trying to fix spent leaves, as soon as they look like there starting to turn from green to yellow, pluck them off, cheers hope it helps,,GQ

Thanks for your reply.

Makes sense.. maybe i'll try harvesting when 50%+ trichs are amber.

They're not going so badly for my first grow. I didn't do any low stress training or anything like that.. and topped them very late, guess there's always next time

Haha thanks for your reply .

Well it's the least I can do as I tend to bombard these forums with questions.

It can get overwhelming with the amount of information at your finger tips on the internet so any help is really appreciated especially since it's my first grow so it's easy to second guess everything.

Could anyone please clarify my last question:
