Mucked up SCROGging

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I mucked up SCROGging my plants, see below pics .. and have my two lights now attached directly to the top support bar of my tent.  I have two weeks left 'till harvest (I suspect longer due to all plants still having clear trichs) and am unable to lower my plants again, so have turned the ballast down to '400W' instead of 'super' setting I would've had them on if plants were not so close to lights.  I have 2 x 600W HPS Cultiv8 lights .. with fans running both top and bottom of tent.

No room left

Not quite The Way It should Be

The pic doesn't show it well, but I can stand up under them, I'm 168 tall .. I need a step ladder to see the tops - you can laugh if you want to.

Anyway, I'd really appreciate some input about the lighting situation I have .. when I had them running at '600W' or 'Super' I was getting a bit of burn happening.  However, I also at the time had a substantial build-up of nutes in all the plants, so this could've been nute burn instead as it was mostly at tips of leaves (I can't really tell the difference yet).  At the moment it appears that some buds are shorter, fatter and lucious (Hiydrow & CBD Supreme) but most buds on my Blueberry are tall and a bit straggly.  I'm unsure if this is just they way buds should be on this particular plant, or whether I am just slowly torturing it. This plant also had the most build-up of nutes prior to flushing it properly, it's now only getting less than half the nutes it was previously, with run-off readings now making sense.  Would you recommend bumping the lights back up to '600W', or would that be overkill.  I'm suspecting I should just suck it and see, but am getting nervous as my plants are tough, but shouldn't press my luck thing.  Below pic of tall skinny blueberry bud.

What did you do? Wait too long to flip? The scrog net should be way way down further... I feel for ya mate, it's gonna hurt damaging those buds with the light.

The amount of nutrients your plants require is dependent on how much light you are giving them, so if you are going to run the light at 400 I'd definitely be lowering how much you are feeding anyway.

Not sure how to resolve the space issue aside from early harvest... Nobody wants that.

Cut out the crappy buds , get it back under control and concentrate fattening up the buds u can get under the light m crank it back up to full

They r resilient, do what u have do ,tie bend etc

If u don’t they all will be like that big bud

Hi blue bucket, im with tunkers looks like you let them get to big before you flipped to 12/12.... haha happens to me all the time.

Buds look nice though i wouldnt stress , theres not much you can do now aside from what youve already done... turn the lights down and drop your feed strength a bit, watch for more burn and it should be right. Next time flip them a bit earlier or tie them down as they stretch[emoji4]

The big bud is foxtailing, from being to close to the light or heat stress.... i had the same issue in ny last grow. Final quality wasnt where ive had the same strain before, but still much better than the dense red crap that people sell [emoji16]

Hey, that could make sense .. had some stinking hot days when I had probs with the rooms aircon. .. I remember freaking out that the temp. of the plants' canopy was over 40 degrees for a while when I didn't realise the aircon had clapped out .. thanks Dr.Argon.  I'm getting my first mobile phone in a decade delivered this afternoon, next grow I'll hook up a temp. gauge with an app on the phone that I'll set an alarm for temp. flunctuations

Thanks Micmac & Tunkers .. will lower the nutes, cut the crap buds out .. then crank the lights back to full and watch for burn .. if goes ok, will bump the nutes back up and keep my fingers crossed.

I stuffed up the SCROGging in so many dumb ways ...  First I couldn't source a net, so used a plastic trellis thing which broke the stems of the plant when I tried to keep them under .. I ended up putting another net on top (I modified an old fishing net) and spent ages cutting the plastic trellis out of the plants FFS.  By that stage, one strain grew a lot faster than others, so I was struggling to keep it under .. waiting for others to keep up.  Finally, another modified fishing net went over the top again (the blue one that you can see in photo) with the second one removed.  There were tears and foul language.  I will NEVER grow 3 different strains in one hydro grow ever again.

Yep, that could've happened too.  I'm keeping a personal grow dairy, I've noted in it quite a bit of info from yourself & Merl1n .. very helpful, thanks so very much  :good:

I've decided to tie down the foxtailling ones

As I've said many a time before "...it's all a learning..."

I am yet to hear of a multi strain grow that didn't have issues. I did a multi strain... ...once.

Now I grow 1 strain/grow.

Altering you grow now will be a waste of time, by the time the changes take effect it will be time to pull.

How many weeks of 12/12 are you planning on? I run 12/12 for 12-13weeks. Commercial growers usually go 8weeks, but those additional 4 weeks are well worth it IMO.

Merl1n, I just finished a grow with 9 strains

The only drama I had was the beginning, once I got them growing I honestly didn’t have 1 issue apart from them getting out of hand a few times

1 was a landrace sativa,I never mixed different solutions for different plants , all got the same

1 thing I did do was never go above 1.4 ec mostly around the 1.0 to 1.2 range

Got no complaints on quality, taste or smell

The beauty is that now I can mix up what when I smoke a particular strain

Another advantage I’ve found with having more than 1 to choose from, the Acapulco gold is a great smoke but does nothing for my pain

On the other hand the 4/5 of the other strains do ease and relax my muscles and help me sleep, , but there’s no way I could smoke them n go out because it’s fairly obvious I’m smashed , nor during the day because I’ll do nothing

It works for me, I’ve currently got 8 different strains going in a recycling drip system with coco

1 week in n it’s running great, again the same solution for all

I think Merl1n may've been commenting for my benefit, being just my 2nd grow.  I would advise anyone doing their first or 2nd hydro to stick with one strain, considering the drama I had .. would've made it a lot easier for me.  I grew 3 different 'medical' strains as I wanted to try them to see if I got better relief from any one strain.
